Fever when given Probiotics

Hi,

My son seems to get fever everytime after I give him probiotics. This happened 3

times. The 1st 2 times was a year ago, on separate occasions when I give him

BioSet probiotics. Then last month, he tried Dr Mercola's probiotics only once,

and he developed fever 2 days later ago.

Does anyone have the same experience & know what's the reason?

Many thanks!

HY

The Mercola formulation contains Lactobacillus sporogenes which is not

present in the BioSet apparently.

But, it alone clearly cannot be the cause otherwise you would not have

seen a fever in the BioSet instance.

We use Bio-Kult which also does not contain Lactobacillus sporogenes,

and we have never observed a feverish result.

It contains all of the bacteria present in BioSet.

Now, my guess is that you have some viruses that are being challenged,

in the bowel primarily.

They get a bit excited when challenged and the body has to fight them

accordingly.

That could lead to a fever.

How high is it ?

Hi,

His fever could reach 39C. A therapist once mentioned that my son has a 'gut

problem', and he's now on GFCFSF diet. Could it be due to the gut? I'm wondering

if I should try giving him probiotics again, in a few weeks time..

Thanks,

HY

Yes, it happened to us. A few years ago, when we tried Kirkman's Probiogold even

a 1/8 cap, she started having fever. We tried at 3 different times, got fever

all the 3 times. The reason we either it was die off (of bad bacteria) effect or

some probiotic strains are not tolerable for her.

You can try to follow what we did:

1) Use a mild and single strain Lactobacillus probiotic like Culturelle (make

sure you buy non dairy version) or Kirkman's Acidophilus. You can start with 1/5

capsule and slowly increase. Mix 1/5 cap in to any cold food only.

2) Then buy mildest strains of Bifido strains of probiotic like Kirkman's Bifido

Complex. And do the same thing.

3) Once your child completely tolerates both Lactobacillus and Bifido strains,

then you can try BioSet and then Dr.Mercola's at very low doses.

Don't throw away your probiotics, just keep then refrigerated. Now, my daughter

tolerates Probiogold without fever.
