Guest guest
We had no fever with our 2 bouts of croup. I would take him in. Does being outside in the fresh air help? hard to tell in the summer months, I know. Me? I would take him in. It doesn't mean you have to accept drugs or any care you aren't comfortable with, but at least you can rule out real potential illness. Guest guest
For croup you can stand by the open freezer and let him breathe that cold moist air and see if it helps. Could it be pertussis? Vitamin C cures that iirc. abx just stop it from spreading. Guest guest
You might also avoid dairy if you are breastfeeding and see if that helps. > > > > > Hello listmates, > My two month old has developed a bad cough (kinda barky), mucus production, no fever and chest retractions. Guest guest
I am thinking vitamin C might be a good idea regardless of what it is.. anyone aware of the dosage on a 13 lb baby? Or should I just take a lot and then it is my breastmilk? Thanks again for all the help! Guest guest
Keep an eye on it. I have a friend who lives in upstate NY and after over a month of misdiagnosis (and over $1000 in med bills) her children have pertusis. She has three children under 4 and all three have it. It was the worse in her 10-month-old. The 4 year old was the only one vaccinated for it when he was young. It was a simple nasal swab to determine pertusis. Hope your baby feels better! > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hello listmates, > > > My two month old has developed a bad cough (kinda barky), mucus production, no fever and chest retractions. Guest guest
We have had whooping cough (pertussis) several times (each time gets better); the treatment is two weeks of erythromycin. One way to see (hear) if it is whooping cough is you will hear a characteristic whoop at the end of the coughing spasms. Ours sounded like a barking seal. Whooping cough has been pretty common in the last few years, even for those who were vaccinated against it!! Other week-long antibiotics will only temporarily solve the problem and they will actually mask what is happening. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hello listmates, > > > > My two month old has developed a bad cough (kinda barky), mucus production, no fever and chest retractions. Guest guest
Also, I just want to mention that adults can and do get it. When we all had it, I was pregnant 9and sick as a dog). The doctor could tell what it was by talking to me on the phone. The coughing will be silent for hours and then when it starts you cannot stop. Then as soon as it started, it stops again. What a nightmare, but we are probably immune from 3x exposure now. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hello listmates, > > > > My two month old has developed a bad cough (kinda barky), mucus production, no fever and chest retractions.
