Guest guest
Hello Jim, It is tough to read peoples faces here, don't you think? I understand now. I have thought of things like tai chi just can't seem to fit it into my schedule. Heidi
Guest guest
Where can I get some tai chi instructional tapes or DVD? I think I've heard of it, but not real sure I know what it is. I try to do some light yoga moves to help with the stiffness plus it should help with my circulation. Actually, I keep meaning to do that. I've also heard that meditation is supposed to be good. I don't know if I would go that far, but it is relaxing. Which can be a good thing.

Guest guest
Try your library. If you want to purchase, you can get them anywhere you buy regular DVDs. Lots of communities offer classes--I got into it through an inexpensive community ed class. I've practiced meditation for 25 years, and highly recommend that, too. I don't know what you mean about going " that far " ; it's a very simple and effective life-enhancing activity that can be practiced by anyone. One need not subscribe to any particular religion or philosophy. Sierra > Where can I get some tai chi instructional tapes or DVD? I think I've > heard of it, but not real sure I know what it is. Guest guest
What miraculous claims have you heard? In any event, some are true and others aren't... Do you practice any sort of meditation right now? If so, then I doubt that the benefits would go much beyond what you're already getting; but if not then I highly suggest taking up Tai Chi, or some other practice that puts an emphasis on " stillness " type meditation. Speaking from my own experience, this sort of practice can lower blood pressure (not that us CRONies need to be overly concerned in this regard), improve the quality of sleep, relieve anxiety and depression (and as a result, decrease the urge to latch onto alcohol), improve posture, and generally improve core strength while puting you through a broad range of isometric positions. I like to mix things up, so I can't say if Qi Gong, Tai Chi, Yoga, Zazen, or any other specific meditative practice that has helped me more than others, but I can say that it has enriched nearly every facet of my life, and I expect to live longer and happier as a result. As a side note, Taoist mythology maintains that these practices can ultimately allow a person to cultivate their Chi (or something esoteric like that) to combat aging and achieve immortality, so that might be of interest to this board. - > > Has anyone in the group tried tai chi??? Guest guest
Tai chi Posted by: " Francesca Skelton " fskelton@... fskelton2002 Thu Jul 10, 2008 7:13 am (PDT) Has anyone in the group tried tai chi??? The claims for it are nothing short of miraculous, one of them being better sleep. Please do post if it's worth my time and effort to take a class. ------------ Hi Francesca I have done tai-chi. One of my meditation instructors has taught me a few moves to accompany a moving meditation. At a condominium I lived in, our association president was an instructor, so I observed him practicing daily and learned about the benefits. As people age, this is a good practice to get into. It helps with body and mind coordination. My main practice, though, is yoga. Cheers, Arturo
