Guest guest
" My understanding is that ideally, methylation should be optimised prior to beginning chelation? " In my experience, (in chelating myself and my kids) you are constantly going to have to work on methylation issues while you are chelating. For us that meant we needed a lot of sulfate (in form of epsom salt baths usually) and maintenance of MB-12 (started with injections, now 5mg lozenges daily). " Am I misinformed as to the importance of good methylation before starting chelation? " As far as I know it's not a requirement to have all the methylation supplements in place or know that the cycle is perfect because it won't be till you are done anyway. " Would a month of MB12 shots be beneficial prior to chelating? " Yes, but there is really no need to hold off on chelation, you can do it at the same time. " My daughter has quite a toxic load so would taking MB12 first for a while be likely to make her more comfortable during the chelating process? " My guess is probably not. It sounds like you have worked a lot on healing the gut as much as possible before you started and that in general helps the body make it's own B12. Once you start pulling the metals things are going to change anyway, she will be yeasty again and you will have to keep that in check. If you haven't given any MB-12 yet, I would suggest the injections for awhile or a high dose of lozenges. It wouldn't keep me from starting chelation though. > > Hi everyone, > > This is my first post. > > I have a 6yr old daughter with autism. > > Andy has already looked at her DDI results so we know chelation is needed. > > We've had liver & kidney function tests come back normal so am confident her body will cope with the extra stress of chelation. > > We have been strict gfcf, soy free, corn free, additive free & sugar free for about a year. Guest guest
Thanks Liz for your comments. ) Andy, Obviously then, we must begin to chelate asap!! We will abandon the MB12 shot idea for now and focus on getting those metals out. (Personally, I prefer to address issues one at a time so I can ascertain what is helping/hindering progress anyway.) Do you think there is a point where the shots would/could be of benefit? Thank you for taking the time to respond to my post. Guest guest
My daughter did the shots for about a year before and at the beginning of chelation. I saw improvement at first, but then it stalled. I stopped the shots. At about round 75 I restarted the MB12 and this time added in Folinic and DMG. The progress has been amazing. She no longer has yeast issues so I was able to cut her yeast stuff. So, in my personal experience, methylators are important. Maybe more important after a lot of rounds of chelation. My daughter is improving more and more finally. I was seeing nothing from chelation for a very long time, now I am seeing some progress. Guest guest
Hi, I just started MB12 shot for my daughter with folinic acid. 4th shot now. See tremendous improvement in terms of eye contact, speech, social skill. Obviously we need adequate B12 but I wonder if that would be a reason to avoid supplementing with high doses before or during chelation. http://www.whale.to/w/b12.html Aren't there are some issues with certain minerals affecting methylation as well, maybe copper and therefore molybdnum for cu/zn balance. You might find this opinion to be interesting. http://www.alternativementalhealth.com/articles/walshMP.htm#Mer If your hair analysis shows the abnormal balance of minerals that is consistent with high levels of heavy metals maybe it would be better to start with a plan to reduce the heavy metals. Guest guest
Of course, as Andy says, B12 etc prior to chelation, is not essential. Chelation is essential and a long process, so start asap. However, as to 's comments, I will say this, ditto, essentially here. We started MB12 shots with 5MTHF about 3 or 4 weeks before chelation. Well, initially it helped tremendously with language, eye contact etc for my son. Then we started chelation, and things progressed nicely. However after chelating about 5 or 6 months, the shots did nothing, and in fact started to cause harm. So we stopped giving them and all methylators for a while, tried again a few months later, they just made my son a nut. So we stopped. Around round 70 we reintroduced B12 when language was lagging, in oral form, with folic acid and DMG, and we have been able to control the dose nicely orally, raising it up slowly with good results. We too have no yeast or real gut issues now, so the oral B12 is well tolerated. At different points in the chelation process it seems in our experience the need for methylators changes. Guest guest
I do not think Andy would agree because I have seen him recommend high dose lozenges. If you read on, it looks like they are concluding that there are benefits from it. I would definitely do an oral trial as Andy has previously recommended so that you can tell if it is tolerated. > > > > QUESTIONS... > > > > Am I misinformed as to the importance of good methylation before starting chelation? > > > > Would a month of MB12 shots be beneficial prior to chelating?... > > > > > > > , I thought I heard from Dr. Huggins that B12 can convert the somewhat less toxic form of mercury into the more dangerous methylmercury.
