Guest guest
, First, makes sure you have a good orthopedic surgeon who is up to speed on the latest techniques and treatments. That said, let me assure you that if you've been able to stand that horrible grinding pain of bone on bone and the pain of RA, you can deal with the surgery and the recovery. And let me tell you, I'm a wimp and a whiner when it comes to pain. Within 24 hours of surgery I was up and tending to personal needs and physical therapy had begun. My surgeon and his team were extremely mindful of pain and meds were available when I needed them. I won't kid you. It will hurt, but you've already become expert at dealing with pain, haven't you! The good part is that it gets a bit better every day. My surgery was on Tuesday, and I went home Saturday morning. I could have gone earlier, but I didn't feel I was ready. I had home visits from a nurse and physical therapist. I was given exercises to do everyday to make my new knee more flexible. In three weeks I was going to PT away from home 2x weekly. In 5 weeks I was able to drive myself. At 7 weeks, I was back to work. Oh and at 5 weeks I was able to walk around some public gardens in our area with the use of a cane. Hope this helps you. I have never regretted having it done. If my other knee ever gets that bad, I will have it done in a heartbeat. Let me know if there is any more I can tell you. I was in such horrible pain from the procedures and the recovery was bad too. I went to see my ra dr on Thurs and he says the reason my knee is acting up so bad, is that I have OA in it and it's now bone on bone. I am scared to death of a knee replacement. I am only 45 years old. How much recovery time did it take you? Please write me with full details. Thanks so much!! Sports Rekindle the Rivalries. Guest guest
Thanks for everything you wrote. I am afraid my surgery will have to wait for a while, cause my husband lost his job and now we have no insurance. I know there's a lot of people out there in worse shape than me. I will remember all you said and keep your letter to refer to later on. Once again, thank you so much!! ~Spencer <pachelbel1949@...> wrote: , First, makes sure you have a good orthopedic surgeon who is up to speed on the latest techniques and treatments.
