Subject: [ ] Call Congress to demand safer chemicals. Our kids

deserve it!

Safe Chemical Act of 2010

Please Take Action! CALL your representative TODAY at 202-224-3121 - a

sample message can be found below.

The Safe Chemical Act of 2010 is being discussed right now - this week,

in the House of Representatives.

Why?

* Because today, babies are born on their first day of life with

over 287 chemicals already found in their tiny bodies, including mercury.

* Because today, 1 in every 100 children in the US is now diagnosed

with autism.

* Because today, current chemical laws allow untested, toxic

chemicals to be used in our consumer products.

* Because today, over 1.1 million gallons of chemical dispersants

have been pumped into the Gulf of Mexico without any testing of the

effects on human health.

* Because today, the chemicals found in simple products we use

everyday have been linked to negative health effects including autism,

cancer, early puberty, learning disabilities, and sexual dysfunction.

Shockingly, some chemicals found in tiny infants in 2004 were banned

over 30 years ago, yet they are still being passed onto our children,

unknowingly and unwillingly by their moms through the umbilical cord.

There are over 80,000 chemicals currently, and every year in the US

another 1000 new, untested chemicals are introduced.

While this bill is a good first step, it's missing key provisions like

phasing out the worst chemicals first, and ensuring new chemicals are

tested for safety BEFORE they are allowed on the market. Call your

representative in Congress by dialing the Capitol switchboard in

Washington, DC at 202-224-3121. (To find out who your representative is,

visit this website http://www.house.gov/ and enter your zip code in the

upper left corner.)

Sample message:

" Hi my name is ____ , and I live in Representative's X district. I am

really concerned about toxic chemicals in consumer products and their

impact on my family's health. Please vote to strengthen the Safe

Chemicals Act of 2010 by making sure chemicals are safe before they are

allowed on the market and getting rid of the worst toxic chemicals, like

lead and toxic flame retardants, first. "

Current laws are failing miserably to protect us and this is our

opportunity to change them and ensure untested chemicals never make it

to the marketplace and into our children's bodies. Congress is

listening. Please call right now, and let us know what you learn by

sending an email to j.Lombardo@....

Please Call! Thank you!
