Dear Sam- The mixture is something I have tried following a dear friends advice years and years ago. It was her idea. We both have RA of course and sodgjens syndrome which dehydrates your eyes and mouth as well as the medication we both were on was sucking all the moisture out of us. My skin was like an elephants skin too, so dried out. Anyway, she gave me this big plastic rootbeer mug with a handle, its like 36 ounces or something. We would make hot tea in it with honey and lemon, then started adding orange juice because we got bored of just tea. Then one day she started serving me our toddy's with different tastes in it. She would make just water with honey and lemon, add OJ and apricot or mango and even carrot juice. I also started taking a big horse pill of a multi-vitamin and after a few weeks, my skin looked better and my mouth wasnt as dry not my eyes. Whenever she got a sore throat she would take a teaspoon of molasses, (yuck) mix in a little equal or sweet and low and add a drop, just a drop of something 100 proof. Her favorite was brandy. Well, needless to say when I got a sore throat she was right there with grandma's remedy for me. It tastes gross, and she wouldnt let me wash it down with anything for a few minutes. She said the molasses is so thick that is coats the throat and then the brandy kills whatever germs or bacteria are starting to cause problems. These days, I hardly ever get a cold, but If i should feel something coming on I take 1/2 tsp of honey and 1/2 tsp molasses and a drop of whiskey or the like, and it really works. I dont wash it down with anything. The honey makes it easy to take. Be well, Deborah
