Guest guest
I'm taking several different prescriptions for my rheumatoid arthritis and I've got a very bad flare up in my right hand. It effects some of my day to day activities such as getting change from my pocket or wallet, buttoning my blouse and that kind of thing. Right now I'm on long term disability and have just recently had a hearing about social security disablity. I would like to get into vocational rehab and find myself back to being able to be self-sufficient. I hope that you can try to encourage your mother to go back to treating her RA. As bad as I can feel at times, I know I would feel that much worse if I didn't take my prescribed medicine. Good luck. Guest guest
I have no idea what medicines your mother refuses to take but I hope she can be convinced to get something to help her. Thee are a lot of medical choices. Perhaps someone she trusts and respects could get her to start taking care of herself. That might be a doctor, minister, or friend who could reason with her. She needs a good life and it doesn't sound like she has one now. God bless. ----- Original Message ----- From: snowdrift52003 Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Friday, September 09, 2005 5:41 AM Subject: No meds My mom called last night and canceled her birthday party this weekend due to RA pain. Guest guest
Perhaps under the circumstances your mother would let her GP treat her and the GP would be willing to prescribe appropriate RA medicines. Even Prednisone may give some symptomatic relief. If the problem is just unwillingness to see any doctor then I don't see that you can do anything else. You have to take comfort in knowing that you have done everything you can, but it is hard to see a loved one suffer unnecessarily. God bless. ----- Original Message ----- From: snowdrift52003 Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Friday, September 09, 2005 2:35 PM Subject: Re: No meds Thanks, Harold. My mom has not, and will not, see a rheumatologist, despite all of the concerns expressed by her family. She has explored some alternative treatments, the latest of which was expensive and ineffective. It won't be long before she loses the ability to walk. It's heartbreaking to watch, especially knowing from personal experience how much the meds can help.Sierra Visit your group "Rheumatoid Arthritis" on the web. Guest guest
Hi, She hasn't seen a GP in many years. She has an extremely negative view of doctors. Perhaps a crisis of some sort will lead to a change of heart. You're right--I've done everything I can do. Now I'm standing by to see where this leads. Guest guest
Would it be possible to have a home health nurse stop by and talk with her? Or do they have to be scheduled through a doctor? You might call your hospital and ask. Good luck, Vera/Florida -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Guest guest
I really wish you luck with your mother. Just know that you are in my prayers. I hope that somehow you can find some type of help for your mother. As i've explained before, i'm on a few prescriptions, like Naproxin, Plaquenil, methotrexate and folic acid, plus I have a painful flare up (I've had this since the summer of 2002) and I think my right hand may be permanently deformed. Anyway, as much as I don't like to take meds, I really feel that I'm in better shape than I would be if I wasn't taking anything. Good luck with your mother and God bless you.
