This is what Galileo supposedly said at his trial. It did not prevent him from

spending the rest of his life under house arrest. It took around 300 years for

the Catholic church to issue a formal apology. These days, Galileo's view that

the earth revolves around the sun is " science " . When he said it, it was

" heresy " .

Fortunately, we have something Galileo lacked: The Internet.

I have heard it said that Jesus " taught the teachable " . Sounds like a good

standard to apply. In my experience, fighting with people doesn't win over

their minds. The act of fighting with them only makes them dig their heels in

all the more to defend their position. I have seen it time and time again that

if you address the specific arguments someone has against your view, it doesn't

convince them of anything. They simply don't believe it and it won't matter how

much " evidence " you present. They will just regroup and attack again from some

other direction. If you can find a peer reviewed article, they will still tell

you that they are unconvinced. They will come up with reasons like: It's just

one study and you have to have more than that. Or the authors are biased or have

poor credentials. Or the peer review process was by some organization with a

terrible reputation. Yadda yadda.

Or as someone else here said more succinctly: You are wasting your time.

There are things that work. But this isn't it. Any time you let your enemies

dictate the field of battle and terms of engagement, you are practically handing

them your head on a platter.

Oh, Liz is harmless. We keep her on because we feel sorry for her.

Actually, nothing wrong with Liz. I also agree with her. You can talk yourself

until you're blue in the face and provide people with research galore... they

are not looking to be convinced. I've been there. Pick and choose your

battles. The attitude of the person requesting the info says it all.

From the request, I'm unsure what we are supposed to be doing anyway. I don't

understand what she typed.
