Guest guest
Amen!? And in nice big print so everyone can see it clearly. Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution? ?Please scroll down a little.? Thank You. An idea whose time has come ? For too long we have been too complacent about the workings of Congress. Many citizens had no idea that members of Congress could retire with the same pay after only one term, that they didn't pay into Social Security, that they specifically exempted themselves from many of the laws they have passed (such as being exempt from any fear of prosecution for sexual harassment) while ordinary citizens must live under those laws. The latest is to exempt themselves from the Healthcare Reform that is being considered...in all of its forms. Somehow, that doesn't seem logical. We do not have an elite that is above the law. I truly don't care if they are Democrat, Republican, Independent or whatever. The self-serving must stop. This is a good way to do that. It is an idea whose time has come. Have each person contact a?minimum?of Twenty people on their Address list, in turn ask each of those to do likewise. In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one proposal that really should be passed around. ?Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution ? " Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States . Guest guest
With so many (too many?) seeming to want us to get involved with every issue ostensibly towards serving justice in a world that seems to be moving " away " from that... (Yes, I Feel) I must believe that justice does not begin from the top (or it would " not " be the problem in that respect?) but more logically starts from within the home if not in the heart, from whence all change must begin but by the example of leadership of as much, of understanding more, (of The feeling/s?) where there would be any leadership at all, I mean by as much.. Congress heads a jungle (the new jungle? of its own making no doubt) that I keep out of my life as best I can of minding my own business and making sure that I do the best I can in that respect (of managing myself so others don't have to and/or won't, of discipling myself, where needed) of telling it like it is and practicing what I preach of the more meaningful behavior of and by as much.. . That we would be running our own families and homes so well would be the more meaningful question as far as I'm concerned of establishing justice for one and all by as much And where an election (choice) should come that offers real choice, where you don't make *justice* (for individuals, that there should be any other kind?) your *first* choice, don't expect it? (what's moral and ethical and just?) not with healthcare, education, foreign policy, the economy or *whatever,* where you realize what you have marginalized for as much, where not of your self, Thereof I also prefer *less* government (less authority, not of justice) where it's not about justice, (for one and all, of as much?) and also always vote for that (And that's a period.) Glavic Leader of my world, and still contemplating any other, that it should be *so* just, which I find it isn't, so much (otherwise, otherwise of me of as much, especially?!. I also take the responsibility of *being* of the " constitutional " [conscionable, as far as I'm concerned with this] by as much, that I am by as much, feel that I am and supporting by as much (including with respect to my individual way of expression, that there would be so for anyone else, (including our children?) of *Freedom,* of Expression, of *real* Communication, of sharing and caring, of our Feeling/s, Thereof It wouldn't be *just* to favor one issue of justice over another in that respect of what I feel justness is really about BWT./BIW. > > > > > > > Amen!? Guest guest
Actually, members of Congress do pay into social security and they don't get a pension after one term. http://www.senate.gov/reference/common/faq/retirement_for_members.shtml <http://www.senate.gov/reference/common/faq/retirement_for_members.shtml\ > Is it true that . . . Members of Congress do not pay into Social Security and when they retire they receive a pension equal to their congressional salary for the rest of their life? The answer is no. All members of Congress pay Social Security taxes in the same amounts as they would if they were employed in the private sector at the same salary level. The amount of a congressional pension varies and depends on years of service, age at the time of retirement, and salary. The facts: The confusion about Social Security probably results from the fact that before 1984, Senators and Representatives did not participate in the Social Security program. Like all federal government employees at that time, members of Congress were covered by a pension plan, called the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS), that did not require payment of Social Security taxes and did not provide Social Security benefits. In 1983, Congress passed a law (P.L. 98-21) that required all federal employees first hired after 1983 to participate in Social Security. The law also required all members of Congress to participate in Social Security as of January 1, 1984, regardless of when they first entered Congress. Because the CSRS was not designed to coordinate with Social Security, Congress directed the development of a new retirement plan for federal employees, called the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS), which does coordinate a federal pension with Social Security. Members of Congress are eligible for a pension at age 62 if they have completed at least five years of service. They are eligible for a pension at age 50 if they have completed 20 years of service, or at any age after completing 25 years of service. The amount of the pension depends on years of service and the average of the highest three years of salary. By law, the starting amount of a member's retirement annuity may not exceed 80 percent of his or her final salary. As of October 1, 2000, the average annual pension for members of Congress who have retired under CSRS is $52,464, and $46,932 for retirees under FERS-only or both FERS/CSRS. Read a report </reference/resources/pdf/RL30631.pdf> that provides more detail on retirement benefits for members of Congress. > > Amen!?
