That dose is much higher than anyone in my family needed.

Our symptoms of too much vitamin D were headache, difficulty sleeping, and foot

pain.

It is really easy to ask for a test for Vitamin D. Every lab seems to be able

to do it and they may have specials for Autism Awareness Month. This has been

over the past 10 years that they have been proclaiming D3 helps with recovery

from every major illness including alzheimers, autism, cancer, MS, etc.

I love the D3 from www.qncenter.com - it is under $11 and is predigested so that

it is easily absorbed by kids with autism (and anyone else). They are really

potent!

As for dosing, this article is helpful:

" The second reason for a poor response in autism is dose. Autistic children need

aggressive doses of vitamin D, not maintenance doses. Think of it like treating

rickets. My advice is to give enough vitamin D to get him to at least a 100

ng/mL (250 nmol/L) and if that does not work increase the dose until his 25(OH)D

level is 150 ng/mL (375 nmol/L). This will require 2,000†" 5,000 IU/day for

every 25 pounds of body weight, and occasionally more than that.

However, he will need frequent monitoring of his 25(OH)D levels as these are

pharmacological doses, not physiological doses, meaning these doses should only

be given, and monitored, in the hope of a treatment effect in the serious

disease that has been linked to vitamin D deficiency. It is best done under the

care of a knowledgeable physician. I know that is not always possible and time

is of the essence in autism as it is a progressive, inflammatory brain disease. "

I have a child (age 3) with a Vitamin D-3 deficiency. He was diagnosed at age 2.

The doctor wants to retest in the summertime before giving a supplement, but I

disagree.

Do you have a link for the recommended dosage of 2000 IU per 25 # of weight for

autistic kids?

I would be interested in this please.

I have another son, who I cannot seem to get tested for Vitamin D deficiency

(lack of good doctors) and he has profound verbal apraxia.

We have just removed caesin and wow whata difference.

Vit. D-3 is sitting in my kitchen, waiting to be used.

From what I have read, be careful about the Vitamin A - don't supplement Vitamin

A while you are doing high doses of D3.

You can order the lab for $69 from http://www.directlabs.com and there are

several home tests as well. If you have insurance (PPO) you should be able to

walk into LabCorp or whomever the insurance works with and get the test.
