Guest guest
This is happening with my son--off and on. I believe it is Strep and possibly PANDAS. I am doing an intensive Biofilm protocol and lots of OLE to help while we await the Strep test results. We may do antibiotics with an antifungal. > > For the last few months, my daughter has been experiencing tics and tourettes type movements. At first is was quite subtle and didn't happen very often. Guest guest
We had this - very severe at the onset of his regression. Unda# detox was very helpful - it opened up a detox pathway. These are Belgian herbal remedies. Amoxicillin antibioitic also helped. --penumbra
Guest guest
My son also has tics: the more yeast, the more tics he has. I give him GSE, helps better than Nystatine. Guest guest
I just wanted to add in our experience with tics. Last summer my daughter started having tics - it took me a while to figure out that even though we were SCD, she was eating up to two bananas a day and also tons of chestnuts and her yeast was just out of control. Her tics are now gone with strict SCD (no fruit or chestnuts), diligent rotation of probiotics, no oral B vitamins (I have switched to TD cream which works great from Lee Silsby) and rotation of anti-fungals and anti-bacterials - Nystatin and even Diflucan do not work for us. I rotate GSE, Uva Ursi, goldenseal, Kyolic garlic, etc and I do not give her any supplements that have alcohol in them. It took a while but she does not really have tics any more. Guest guest
Jen, Clearing throat, lip smacking, a quick small head shake, and sometimes she makes a chirping sounding. (These interchange and happen over and over) Sometimes she said she feels a little pressure in her head and when she shakes it, it goes away for a few moments. She says she doesn't know why she does it. It's no big deal at home but, she is in middle school now, so I worry about how other kids are reacting to her. Any ideas? > > > > For the last few months, my daughter has been experiencing tics and tourettes type movements. At first is was quite subtle and didn't happen very often. Guest guest
Sandy, I will tell you what happened with my son when he was six years old, Connor (has Asperger dx). He was diagnosed with strep throat and had to be put on antibiotics. Shortly thereafter he started developing several tics including slamming of the eyes and shaking of the head. It seemed to us that he was in the category of PANDAS...over time the symptoms came and went We had seen our doctor about this the first time this happened...she said to monitor him and to push fluids...it could be that over time the symptoms would resolve themselves...we noticed that there was trend of increase of symptoms after an upper respiratory infection and over 2 months time the symptoms would resolve..although it seemed that during each occurrence symptoms were more intense each time. We sought out additional help and determined that tonsil removal would greatly decrease his infections...so even though it was scary, we went that route. He did great with the procedure and over time we did not see the tics any more...although every once in awhile when he's goes with little rest and is dehydrated I see eyes slam ...and I get him right back to drinking water...of course you want your water to be good and clean... Anyway that's what happened to us and we are all so unique....maybe this info is helpful. -- [ ] Re: Tics/Tourettes Jen, Clearing throat, lip smacking, a quick small head shake, and sometimes she makes a chirping sounding. Guest guest
Hi Sandy, I'm not sure if this is the reason for your childs tics, but I know how hard it is to watch your child go through this and to think the worse. I'm on my way out the door so I've done a cut and paste from part of a post I made last fall on another board. Since then I have spoke to 3 more parents that the same thing happened to their child and was remedied the same way. Hope this helps some how... Jen Here is the post... On another board the issue of tic/eye blinking came up and I wanted to share with you my experience with this because it is something everyone should be aware of. Some of this is my response to another list mate. My NT daughter of 7 years old started this eye blinking/tic in the summer of 2009 and it became increasingly worse. Of course, like you, all I could find was the seizure and tourettes info. With one of her brothers having autism I feared the worse. It became so bad that not only was her face contorting when she did it. it was so hard for her school pic to be taken that it almost didn't happen and kids were starting to tease her. She was starting to withdraw from play dates and her little world was changing before our eyes. The Doc said she would probably grow out of it. when???? She wasn't sure. At this time, we started referrals to the dreaded neurologists. I decided to do some investigating further into it by eliminating some things from her diet. Of course, she's on a pretty healthy diet so it wasn't a hard thing to do... The first thing I eliminated, was her multi vitamin that I purchased from Whole Foods. Within 1 week the blinking had decreased by 70% and within 2 weeks it was completely gone. I'm not sure what it was in the multi, I'm pretty good at keeping my 3 kids 'junk free', but it could have been a mineral or Vitamin that her body was not in need of or she could not process. It could have been anything. including hidden lead in the multi. But one thing is for certain. it WAS the multi. In any case, the awful contorted blinking/tic that was hiding my daughters face and attempting to ruin her little childhood is gone and her face is as beautiful as ever. I can actually see her smile again. Last week, her teacher, who also went through the same thing with her daughter a few years ago - neurologists and all, stopped me in the hall and commented on the fact that the tic was gone and how did I get rid of it?. When I told her it was the multi, she said that when her daughter stopped the blinking/tic, it also coincided with the end of giving her daughter a multi (they had simply ran out and not purchased more) and thought it to only be a coincidence. Please pass this on to anyone you know with a child with this condition. check the Multi Vitamins/supps if any neurological tic has surfaced. it could save a childhood. Guest guest
Jen, Thanks for taking the time to write all of this. I do have to say that my daughter does the eye blinking too at times. We just thought it was seasonal allergies because she only seems to do it at certain times during the year. We have been giving the B12 shots with good results. Our Dr wanted us to try giving them every other day. (we were every 3 days). About two weeks in, the tics were starting to really increase. Then they were pretty much nonstop. Since then, I have cut back on everything. It's gotten a little better. I wonder if I should stop everything and just see what happens..... > > > > > > > > For the last few months, my daughter has been experiencing tics and tourettes type movements. Guest guest
Diflucan made my sons severe tics go away in one day, we now are pulsing it every three days and doing wonders, it helps balance the TH1-TH2 immune system and been also told it is a antiparasitic.... deborah > > Clearing throat, lip smacking, a quick small head shake, and sometimes she makes a chirping sounding. Guest guest
there is quite a bit of info on the internet about magnesium stearate worsening/causing tics... it is a filler in almost all supplements, I have found a few manufacturers that dont put it in but have had to have most of my son's supplements compounded with no fillers. deborah > > > > > > > > > > For the last few months, my daughter has been experiencing tics and tourettes type movements. Guest guest
Sometimes having a supp break is the best thing to do, even if it's just a week. Then start them back in one at a time 4 days apart. Keep a log and monitor behaviors. Sometimes after being on a supp for a while, it may not be needed anymore and can start to work against you... this is why for some, supp breaks help. My son could never get past the hyperactivity/odd behaviors of the MB12 shots and we found Hydroxy B12 were a better fit for him. Good luck, Jen > > > > > > > > > > For the last few months, my daughter has been experiencing tics and tourettes type movements. At first is was quite subtle and didn't happen very often. Guest guest
Please give specifics like dosage and weight and age of child etc... and why are you pulsing? Guest guest
Deborah, I'd like to hear more about this pulsing thing. My son does so poorly on any supplements and medication. Medicaitons actually cause tics in my son on about the 8th day of the medicaiton. it is usually reflux medicaiton that does it. as soon as we take the med away the tics go away. his doct wants him tested for chemical sensativities bc if it was yeast on day 8, it would go away as soon as you took the med away. that said, Hi DANA, im in yeast distress and think my son is headed there. I sent you an email. Hopefuly you got it. Phyllis > > > > Clearing throat, lip smacking, a quick small head shake, and sometimes she makes a chirping sounding. Guest guest
our alternative doc found it seems to work better, gives the liver a break on the days off, when given to my son every day it was to hard on his liver and his rages/anger/behavior where aweful and his sleep was worse. good for long term use. > > > > Clearing throat, lip smacking, a quick small head shake, and sometimes she makes a chirping sounding. Guest guest
yeah, chemical sensativity could be, but i immediately thought of what is the fillers/bad junk that is in the medications, is there magnesium stearate (which there is alot on the web about causing tics), colorings/dyes etc.... my son doesnt tolerate any pharmaceuticals or neutraceuticals that have any fillers/dyes/etc so I have everything compounded from a compounding pharmacy. Very expensive and insurance doesnt reimburse much. > > > > > Clearing throat, lip smacking, a quick small head shake, and sometimes she makes a chirping sounding. Guest guest
he even reacts to the compounded stuff. i even switched pharmacies thinking it was whatever they were using for a suspension agent. we have him on a pill swallowing program and will make capsules when we can to see if that's it. crazy huh? and it's not until day 8 or 9 that he reacts. > > > > > > Clearing throat, lip smacking, a quick small head shake, and sometimes she makes a chirping sounding.
