Guest guest
My best stress reliever is going on my treadmill and working-out. I take all my frustrations out then. I think as parents of kids who are sick alot need some kind of outlet! That works for me! Just what we encourage!! I love it when other kiddo's say hello to my girls w/special needs. I always ask the same thing.....pretty loudly too! " Hey, Marissa is that one of your friends????? " ...... " Is he/she in your class? " . Then try to talk to the child myself.....just to encourage a little more interaction.....always being sure my kids say hello too. My 18 yr old had a very hard time acknowledging others. I think that was a big reason why they just stopped talking to her? Sad.=( Way to go .........errr.... Queen !! Guest guest
Maverick is always eager to socialize. During the football games the bands get together and visit. Mav was out there with his band socializing.. and the bands were beginning to meander back to their opposite stands and Mav was still chatting away. I finally went down to get him. He was talking very nicely to the kids from the other band and they with him. He really didn't want to go back to our stands but I reminded him that his break was almost over and I had nachos for him to eat before he went back to playing. So, we are headed back to our stands, he's talking, high fiving, jutting his chin at kids as we go. Mr. Cool. Then a fellow band member said Hi to him as we passed and Maverick stopped me and said.. " Wait, Mom. I want to tell you. This is my friend. This is.................... (he couldn't remember his name.)..... This is.............. a really nice guy! " And then he turned to the guy and said.. " This is my mom. " Very appropriately. It was so funny. He knew the name.. but forgot it.. but made a great recovery. Guest guest
No, not one of ours but we had 34 trick or treaters last night, the most we have ever had at our house since we moved in in 1995. (dressed as a pirate) and me (also a pirate) passed out treats from 5 pm to 7 p.m. Then his aide Mrs. Howell came and got him and took him to the school Halloween party and dance, which is called Anti Van (standing for Anti Vandalism and started way back in 1941). He danced with his (girl) friend Kelsey most of the time while he was there. I had trick or treaters still coming at 9:55 p.m. when a small Batman showed up. came home at 10.  Don't forget to turn your clocks BACK ONE HOUR.  Dad to , Kristi, and (all three who have Down syndrome) and (Cri du chat) Husband to C. in Mo. Guest guest
This was the first year did not go trick or treating. I love Halloween and talked my sister into spending the weekend- so I took my niece out Tim, dressed up like a pirate and with MY MAKEUP, that he did not ask me if he could use, on, passed out candy to over 340 kids. He said parents took pictures of him with their kids...lol! I do dress up my yard with some scary stuff. This year I bought a fog machine. I also went on my first corn maze (without - he'd never make it through one). We went at night time and oh, boy, what fun!! I've been to fright farms, but never a corn maze. If I had to choose - it'd go for the corn maze at night. OK...does anyone have any pictures of their kid with DS in front of a Thanksgiving turkey? It's time to add another picture to the web page. -- cindysue@... Guest guest
With all our kids food restcritions I am wondering how everyone deals with the issues of this holiday. I stil want my child to have fun and make good memories.
Guest guest
We go trick or treating. We throw away all the candy and I make them special treats that they can have (which is a blast for them anyways since they dont get those treats very often). I can get a few things from the natural candy store online too. They don't seem to mind throwing away the candy, they mostly forget about it (so far anyways 5 & 3). I have been preparing my son NOT to ask for gluten free (and associated other " frees " ) candy when we go to houses lol.
