Guest guest
I know that amalgam removal is not recommended for nursing mothers until after weaning. But what should a mother do if it is required? I am breastfeeding my 10 month son and recently discovered at a dental cleaning that I have several cavities under my amalgams. One of them might be serious enough that it will require a root canal. I've made a separate appointment with a dentist found on the IAOMT site to get a second opinion to see if the cavities can be held off a bit. I had originally planned on nursing until 2yrs if not longer but it sounds like my mouth needs to be worked on soon. I also have an upcoming appointment with a naturopath familiar with the holistic dental clinic to discuss what I can take if the amalgam(s) removal is deemed necessary. Anyone familiar with Dr.Ruth Ann Baron in Toronto? Sadly, I have 9 amalgams in total and I now constantly worry about the mercury in my breast milk. Do the benefits of breastfeeding outweigh the mercury especially since I have so many? I am very conflicted on whether I should continue breastfeeding if the cavities can be held off a bit longer. Should I continue breastfeeding if the amalgams are removed even with the aid of supplements? Is organic formula just as dangerous as regular formula? Should I dump and pump for 1 week as suggested in some older posts? I really enjoy breastfeeding and am very stressed this is happening. My head is spinning from reading some of the archived posts and finding the information overwhelming. Any help is appreciated.
