My brother (25) has autism and has been severely regressing over the past year

or so. He was always moderately autistic & could function and was verbal at

least around family. He did OK in school and in occupational programs at

school. Over the past year especially he has developed OCD that has gotten so

extreme that he can't do anything anymore except sit on the couch for hours and

takes hours to eat a meal, use the bathroom, take a bath, etc. He has gotten

much less verbal. Lately he has even started wetting himself. He has lost

weight. I am sure there are many more things but I live over 1,000 miles away

and only see him about once a year.

Anyway so I have been telling my parents for quite a while to take this

seriously and figure out a cause and they finally got concerned enough to take

him for a checkup. His blood work including lead and mercury came back normal.

They also did an ultrasound and found a mass of some kind on one of his kidneys.

It could be a stone surrounded by scar tissue, or a tumor, or something else.

They are taking him back for a more precise CatScan to try to figure out for

sure what it is.

I was just wondering what is everyone's thoughts on this and what could be the

cause. Is a blood test a good indicator of mercury toxicity or should they get

a hair test..? Could the mass be mercury related or is this a separate

incident..? Could the mass really be causing all of these symptoms..?
