Guest guest
My son uses the EASe CDs at home as well as Mozart and Baroque for Modulation and its been very helpful. However, my sons auditory issues are different. He has too much auditory stimulation. Sinse we've been using the CDs (4 months) he's not covering his ears nearly as much and no longer screams when I use the blender, vacuum or power tools. Karla > > Has anyone had success with Sensory Listening Systems? I have a 7 year old son that is in the habit of humming repetitive bits of music, for example, the first couple of seconds of the " Star Wars " music. This is a problem at home, as it is grating on his parents nerves. It has also started to become a problem in school. At the private OT, they are using " The Listening Program " , but I am reluctant to spend such a large amount of money with out reading reviews, etc. I am also looking at a more affordable version called EASe (Electronic Auditory Stimulation Effect). Amazon's sight says it is OT recommended but there are no reviews. If anyone has used these products or has any other ideas of what we can do to help with this auditory sensory need, please let me know. >
Guest guest
My daughter hums all the time - as she gets better she would stop to talk or answer question but once on her own she would hum again. Sounds very similar to what you are describing. We did Listening Program - and it was totally no help. When we did it I saw a lot more gymnastics activities - she wanted to stand on her head on a couch. That's all we saw. I also noticed it is worse in Fall than other seasons. Guest guest
What I have seen, at least for us, the sensory listening systems help more with regulation than with actual language; more language can be a by-product of the regulation. We spent $7,000 on Tomatis and I think my daughter's balance got better .............. I would not do it again.  I saw more with regulation doing chelation than I did with Tomatis. The EASe suite looks really interesting; definitely not as expensive as the other listing programs. The is another processing program that we do from time-to-time that seems good but I can't remember the name (has the picture of an cartoon Ant on it)  S. > >From: elen_morell <em@...> > >Sent: Wed, November 10, 2010 7:39:40 AM >Subject: [ ] Re: Sensory Listening Systems - advise > > >My daughter hums all the time - as she gets better she would stop to talk or >answer question but once on her own she would hum again. Guest guest
Years ago we did a program based more on the Berard method. Auditory testing and tapes to listen to based on the testing; retesting every 3-6mos. It took about 1.5y for a flat curve to normalize and for the correct ear dominance to evolve. From my understanding; a flat curve means that there is little/no preference for range of sounds so all is coming into the brain w/o a filter. The ear dominance I likened to a highway; correct dominance = interstate and direct to brain center; incorrect dominance = detours to brain center. This therapy was less than $700 for all. It made a huge difference. Places that would sometimes cause meltdowns[grocery store, mall, school activities etc] became well tolerated. We didn't perceive any balance correction but it may have been too subtle. We live in midwest and had to travel approx 6hr for the testing - but time and money well spent!! > >> > >> Has anyone had success with Sensory Listening Systems? Guest guest
We're not at the point where its not a problem, but it does take longer for him to stress out. He still covers his ears, but now he tells me that its loud instead of having a meltdown. We've spent $150 on the CDs (eBay) and our school district uses them as well. I have hopes that he will continue to improve. Karla > > >> > > >> Has anyone had success with Sensory Listening Systems? Guest guest
We did first Samonas (highly recommended by the neurodevelopmentalist), Then Auditory Integration Therapy for our dd who's severely ADHD with some Autism behaviors. She'd always been extremely irritable to sound. (She'd been born at 26 wks in Russia, adopted by us at 8 mos) Both sound programs were expensive, the AIT being more individualized, and more expensive. They only calmed her WHILE she was listening, no carry over at all. After the AIT she began this buzzing/humming thing which took a long time to go away. We began chelating last February and she is about 75% better!!!!!!!!!!! Even the sound sensitivity has improved that much!!! We have been chelating our other dd (full term baby from Russia, too,and although this dd is the one who fully met the counting rules, have only seen maybe 15% improvement in her so far - her problem is extreme anxiety. Both are on many supplements, including ACE. > > >> > > >> Has anyone had success with Sensory Listening Systems? Guest guest
We did Therapeutic Listening last fall/winter and had wonderful sensory improvments. Not all kids are alike, though. And of course, we'd been chelating for over 6 months at that point. We did see gains sensory improvements and they have lasted a year so far. > > >> > > >> Has anyone had success with Sensory Listening Systems?
