Guest guest
I am thinking this is a feasible theory for why my daughter cant speak, and may explain other things ASD children cant do. Inflammation is going to squash whatever is in the way, abnd if nerves are trapped then certainly they will not work. Anyone have any ideas regarding: 1. What can cause brain inflammation? (eg measles) 2. How brain inflammation can be detected (eg MRI scan/ a test of cytokines)? 3. What can be done to reduce/ remove brain inflammation? Guest guest
, in regards to #3....my son had a lot of inflammation prior to SCD and enhansa. he had joint pain at the age of two, and also his face was very inflammated (they even pointed it out at the ER on one of our trips for an " unexplained virus " .) Enhansa is a very strong anti-inflammatory that crosses the BBB. I strongly suspect, then, that he has some mild inflammation of the brain and I believe that is one of the reasons why it was so helpful for our son. I noticed improvements in his cognition and behavior within two minutes of giving him his enhansa. We only used it for a few months and then discontinued it (continued SCD), however, it was one of the best things we did. > > I am thinking this is a feasible theory for why my daughter cant speak, and may explain other things ASD children cant do. Guest guest
, I think this is what is happening in your case. Your doctor DAN or neurologist must have suggested that your child has a brain inflammaiton of some kind for which he/she needs to be treated with an antibiotic called minocycline, an anti-inflammatory antibiotic drug. Buddy, you need to stop being so hush hush about this and come out in the open and let us know. Only then will the people in this forum be able to help you. Guest guest
Do you have a child that has been vaccinated? Vaccines can certainly cause inflammation. I have used anti-inflammatory supplements like curcumin (turmeric), omega 3 fatty acids from fish oil, flax oil, walnut oil, pumpkin seeds. Google anti-inflammatory diet to learn the foods to steer clear of (fried foods!). Milk thistle. Vitamin C. coQ10. Bright colored fruits and veggies! Blueberries, blackberries, red/orange peppers, just to name a few. Pam > > I am thinking this is a feasible theory for why my daughter cant speak, and may explain other things ASD children cant do. Guest guest
,  Thanks for asking..based on what I've learned about this is what I think..  I think immune dysfunction is at the core of autism and it opens the door to opportunistic infections such as viral, bacterial, fungal infections in the brain and gut. The immune system is too weak to fight the infections so they take hold and become chronic effecting various body systems and manifesting as behaviors.  I think the key is to take the stress off the overwhelmed immune system so it can recover. That means addressing each of the opportunistic infections one by one until the immune system is healthy enough and able to take the job on itself.. this could take moinths (years?)  Regarding brain inflammation, I think viruses (like Herpes) or antibodies to the viruses can cause chronic brain inflammation. The Herpes virus has an affinity for the temporal area of the brain which is involved in language. Herpes also invades the nervous system and clusters on nerve endings. I also think infection, inflammation and dysbiosis also exists in the gut, but like in the brain, the immune system is to weak to counteract it. The result is malabsorption and maldigestion.  As far as detecting, SPECT scans can show inflammation (see SPECT images on temporal lobe dysfunction link)  As far as treatment, I've used natural remedies like Enhansa to treat brain inflammation in my son. Enhansa (aka curcumin) is an anti-inflammatory tumeric. http://www.leesilsby.com/enhansamain.php.    We learned through blood tests that my son has an HHV 6 infection is currently taking the perscription drug Valtrex, an antiviral.  He also has a yeast and bacterial infection in his gut. He is on diflucan to treat the yeast.    Related articles:   New Research Links Brain Inflammation to Autism http://occupational-therapy.advanceweb.com/Article/New-Research-Links-Brain-Infl\ ammation-to-Autism.aspx   FRONTAL AND TEMPORAL LOBE DYSFUNCTION IN AUTISM AND OTHER RELATED DISORDERS: ADHD AND OCD  http://www.alasbimnjournal.cl/revistas/4/goldbergi.htm From: peter <peter_2_@...> Subject: [ ] Brain inflammation squashing nerves - affecting organs/ muscles/ larynx Date: Wednesday, July 7, 2010, 2:10 PM  I am thinking this is a feasible theory for why my daughter cant speak, and may explain other things ASD children cant do.
