I am planning to decline the Vit K injection of course...and now I am having

trouble finding Vit K for my newborn. I have found Vit K2 drops for around 50$,

is that what I would give to him? What dosing schedule would you recommend as

well? After much thought we have decided to circumsize a week after birth and I

want to make sure his levels are good before we do so. I will also be

breastfeeding but I had to supplement with my son so I'm not sure how much

breastmilk he will be getting the first week.

Thanks!

I would just get some Vit K pills and take them while breastfeeding.

You can call me re: milk supply -- don't let that worry you or the more you

worry about it, the less you will make. I would highly recommend taking

brewer's yeast or one of the many capsules, teas or tinctures from

http://www.motherlove.com or http://www.earthmamaangelbaby.com - I have used

and sold (long ago) both of those and they are fantastic galactalouges

(increase breastmilk).

For Vitamin K - I had it in my birthplan for no injection, and that is a

common request, but I also had asked for things like clamping and cutting

the cord after it was done pulsing, etc. to reduce some issues. I also

requested Vitamin K orally (hospitals have it, if not, your dr can give you

a script) and a delay of all routine anything until after bonding time.

Just make sure that your attending dr will be aware of anything.

This may be good reading of things to incorporate:

Thanks everyone! I also forgot to mention that this baby is breech so I will be

having a c-sec :( My birth plan pretty much went out the window with that as far

as waiting to clamp the cord etc. I am terrified about the lack of control I

will have being cut open on the table afterwards. I will really have to count on

my husband!!

Has your doctor or midwife tried turning the baby? Sometimes a baby can be

repositioned prior to labor/birth.

There is also the Webster technique I think it's called. Chiro do it. I've

heard a breeze compared to the pain of a doctor trying to move that baby.

Good luck! I had a scheduled c-section, it was a breeze compared to the failed

one then c.

Also pumping to stimulate your milk will help. Does wonders!

My instincts tell me to let the baby be. I have a feeling he is where he is for

a reason. He has been here for at least 10wks. Maybe the cord? If he turns he

turns...fingers still crossed!

Do you not want to delover breech or does your doc not feel competent enough to

deliver (or even turn the baby?)?

Just curious....as I ould deliver breech in a heartbeat, before I would go

through another cesarean section. (Mom of three homebirths and an amiable

hospital birth AFTER a unneeded c-section 23+ years ago).

This post is in response to the member who talked about the Webster

Technique. Not all chiropractors are trained in this technique, and it is

important for a mother to get the proper analysis and treatment for her

condition, especially if she has not been under regular chiropractic

treatment throughout her pregnancy. To find a qualified doctor and more

information, please check the http://icpa4kids.com website and look for

information regarding the webster technique. They will have a membership

directory of qualified practioners.

Going to share this info to the board in case it helps... You *can* move a

breech baby, and they move themselves all the time. There are sooo many reasons

not to have a c-section, but it is your call - you're the mom!

I also declined the vit. k shot for my daughter. My daughter had bruising on her

head and I was concerned but the pediatrician said it was nothing to worry about

even without her getting the vit. k. I did buy vit. K (I think they were

capsules) for myself but never took them. I had a really great labor nurse who

took it out of the newborn kit before my daughter was born.

Also, here is a website I found. Maybe it will help.

I just have a baby by c section last Wednesday and declined the vitamin k

shot. I bought the oral drops from http://www.birthwithlove.com/ and had

them administered at birth. No one complained one bit. Just tell everyone

that morning when you arrive what your plans are. If the ped is in the arena

have your support person keep an eye on him and his nurse and remind them

about the drops. Have the drops ready and there and the dosage (1 drop at

birth, 1 week and 1 month) and it should be ok!

Good Luck!

Instinct is...they do turn. Talk to him/her and ask him to turn. I've had 2

c-sections and recovery is much harder, let's not talk about the undesirable

side effects of the drugs.... I ask you to please take the time and visit

www.spiritofmotherhood.com by mrs. Cheryl Steinberg. She can send you a CD that

is really event and life changing for mothers (in my case, I was having a hard

time emotionally when I received this information and it connected me back to

the moment of my kids being born, to my mission as a mother and my spiritual

bond to my kids, it is lovely and mrs steinberg turned out to be an unbelievable

woman who has helped me much, she is also an SCD / EFT expert and advisor).

Perhaps she can help you do EFT to program yourself for a birthing-experience

beyond eautiful.

I have read about all the natural turning techniques and tried a bunch earlier

on. I am now past 37wks and it is tight quarters in there. I know babies can

turn up until the last minute but this baby has been in the same spot for over

10wks now. He seems quite comfortable where he is. I have been trying to

encourage him verbally but I have to wonder if maybe he knows what he is doing?

Having a c-sec is the last thing I wanted to do. I was really looking forward

to a vaginal birth again as well as attempting it naturally. The doctors at my

practice refuse to deliver a breech baby and I wouldn't feel comfortable with

their experience and training on the matter in the first place. I think the

medical schools focus mostly on c-secs these days and put little emphasis on

breech delivery. I will check out that site and order some oral K! I have

heard that hospitals may provide it as well..I should call about that. I hope

the staff is respectful of my choices or I will give them hell for my entire

stay :)

Moms taking vitamin K has not been shown to be effective. Poly vi sol

doesn't have vitamin K. Usually it isn't necessary unless the baby has

received antibiotics (which decrease the bacteria that normally produce

vitamin K). The vitamin K is converted into clotting factors to prevent

hemorrhaging. Eventually the intestinal bacteria produce the vitamin K and

the liver will produce the clotting factors, usually by the 8th day

(reasoning for circumcision to be delayed until then). Appropriate neonatal

probiotics may be additionally helpful.
