Guest guest
Tim, As we have gotten older, I guess the 5 minutes between us is not so important to him anymore - after 30, he quit worrying about it:) But man, growing up he hated that the birthday cake would always say " & " instead of listing him first! We told him it was ladies first! What about you, how many minutes/hours are you and your twin apart? I think you said you were identical (?), that must have been interesting growing up! Did you ever switch classrooms? By the way, were you baby A or B? ' Mom
Guest guest
Your brother was fighting you for top billing - That's classic! My twin brother and I are only 4 minutes apart. I was baby B. Unfortunately for my mom, until the day I was born the doctors kept telling her she was eating too much - ultrasound was not too reliable back then! My mom always dressed us up exactly the same - it was so bad that our grandparents simply refered to us as " TimmyTommmy " ! Talk about an identity crisis. I was always " Timmy the Timid " and he was " Tom the Terrible " ! (If anyone uses this information against me at a later date, you'll have to suffer my wrath) One mom I interviewed for the first twin study simply refered to her twin boys as " Good " and " Evil " . I begged her to never let her boys here that, and she promised me that it would remain our little secret. As I said, I eventually grew up to be the better looking and more intelligent twin (I can say that because he doesn't participate in this discussion board!). Both Tom and I went to Michigan State and received Mechanical Engineering degrees. It was always a unique experience to have some strange beautiful girl come up to me on campus and give me a hug or put her arm around me(thinking I was Tom) - my friends just thought I was a god. As a girl/boy pair, I've got to ask you: How many times do they STILL ask if your identical?? How many times have you been asked whether when he gets hurt if you feel pain?, or Can you tell what he is thinking? If only we had such powers. Other than poking fun at it, being a twin is pretty great. Are you and your brother still close? Guest guest
Hey Timmytommy () That is so funny, I had friends that were fraternal boys that were named Timmy and Tommy too. Yes, I always get the "are you identical?" question!! WHY! I have to explain, no, I am a girl and he is a boy, we cannot be identical! Then they feel really stupid and say, "right, right!" Interesting that you both went into the same field. Lucky you, to have an extra set of girls to hug you, bet you didn't explain that you weren't him, you naughty, evil twin yourself I can just imagine a huge grin on your face as you look at your friends while hugging this complete stranger, like, yeah baby, yeah! My brother and I are close, and we did have one weird experience where I sensed something was wrong, and it turned out he was in grave danger trying to save a lady from getting mugged and got shot at....this was on our birthday, so we thought it was weird- they missed, he was fine. Other than that, we have mostly inflicted pain on each other as well, although we have an older brother and sister and they were better at that! My Mom didn't have the ultrasound in those days either, but when they heard two heartbeats, my dad went out and got a bottle of whiskey (he's not a drinker!). I guess having 3 and 4 was a big shocker! My aunt tells me that my Mom had me in one arm and my brother in the other, with tears streaming down her face when she walked in....needless to say, I'm sure she was overloaded with twins, a 2 year old and 6 year old. She must have gotten into a rhythm because she is a great Mom (and a great dad!). Did you have your own language? They say that I could understand my brother when no one else could, and translated his gibberish into words for them! No one really knew we were twins though, because I was always taller, always seemed older than him, until he sprouted around 16 and made me look smaller, for a change! Sounds like you and your brother probably had a lot of fun growing up, and the bond between you sounds pretty tight. It's great to have that, many people can't say they do, always cherish it because as I get older, I realize, it really is a special gift! Have a great day, '

I can't even imagine that! Yikes! My mom tells me that Sara (my twin) and I started working out a language of our own when we were first learning to talk. She said we had very distinctive words for certain things - like yellow we called audi, highchair was key and so on. Mom was/is a school teacher and put a very quick end to that - she didn't think it would be a productive thing once we started school. Who knows what would have developed from that! I never really had any cute guys come up to me and hug me thinking I was my sister, but that would have been pretty cool. We both went to the Univ. of Oklahoma and got degrees in education (she chose early childhood - I chose music). We do have kids that come up and hug us (children we teach/taught) thinking we are their teacher and we've never seen them before! Usually we just play along and say it's good to see you and I'll see you at school tomorrow - it's easier then explaining. LOL Marci
Guest guest
Hi Debbie, Yes, both my wife and I are Spartans! When my oldest son was two and a half, we use to say " Go Green " ... and he'd yell " Go Blue " - He obviously didn't know that " Blue " was the color of that other Michigan school, but he sure enjoyed getting a rise out of mom and dad! Oh well, I guess that's one college education I don't have to pay for! Tim > " Timid Timmy " > LOL Tim, you're just cracking me up!!! Hehe, so you're a former > Sparty huh? Guest guest
, I love talking with other twins - it just cracks me up. Tom and I didn't have our own language, but my mom swears that when we use to talk in our sleep we would hold conversations and answer each other. With regard to the girls on campus, I of course always explained who I was....evenutally! With the addition of Tom and myself, my mom had " Four under 4 " - a very busy woman. Guest guest
Tim: And to think your son is still alive even after yelling " Go Blue! " That's funny. I am not a college sports fan at all, I just stick with the pros. Are you & your wife from MI then? I live in Grand Rapids. Born & raised here, I'll never move, pretty sad & boring life, hehe. Guest guest
Debie, I grew up north of Detroit by about an hour. A small town called Imlay City in the thumb region. My wife was from Eaton Rapids which is south of Lansing by 30 minutes or so. On occassion my wife's family will share a cottage with us North of Grand Rapids on Lake Michigan. The town I believe is called White Lake / Montague (??). My boys were both born in Arizona - they don't understand the seasons. Last time we were home for X-mas, I took my oldest son Spencer (6) sledding, and on the way home he asked if we could go to the beach now! We love the Grand Rapids Area.
