Guest guest
Blood testing actually has very little value unless it is significantly high. Guest guest
Blood tests for metals will show only current exposure. Don't let them do challenge tests (they're dangerous due to the high single dose of chelator, and not particularly useful). A DDI hair elements test with counting rules applied would be prove more useful. You can order them without a doc through DLS (Direct Lab Services). They're on special during April for Autism Awareness Month. They'll give you a discount if you mention this list. Guest guest
Do conventional doctors test other ways as well (i.e. a hair test)?? Should I/Could I ask for it? Thanks again!! Guest guest
Very unlikely that a mainstream doctor would even look at a hair test, much less order one. You can order one yourself from Doctor's Data called Hair Elements Test and mention this group for a discount. It is the same one most of us get so we are familiar and can help you when you get the results. It is nice to have a doctor to order other tests for you, prescribe meds as needed, and " be there " in general, but not completely necessary. Guest guest
The only acurate way to test for mercury is a hair test. And you are not looking for mercury, you are looking for the effects of mercury on the body as represented as " deranged mineral transport " which means that minerals are not being absorbed and moved through the body properly. Guest guest
blood testing will reflect current (acute) mercury exposure. mercury quickly settles into the tissues and requires a chelating agent to remove it.  hair testing - can be done with out a dr by going to direct labs and requesting a doctor's data (DDI) essential elements hair test.  hair test will measure excretions from the body. its not usually reliable with respect to mercury but you can use Andy's counting rules to determine if mineral transport is deranged and if so deduce that mercury may be an issue.  other testing include urine porphyrins or fecal metals testing but again these are excretory tests and mostly useful for acute (recent) exposure.  If the mercury has settled into the tissues it is difficult to test for unless you do a biopsy. Guest guest
Hi Dawna, You can ask them to order the hair elements test from DDI. They may say they want to use another lab, but the counting rules are specific to DDI and very few other labs. Most mainstream docs don't understand hair tests and wouldn't know about the counting rules.
