Guest guest
Well I'm a newbie to the MTX pills.....My dr prescribed 3 tablets once a week...I am always cautious about new drugs, so the first week, I took 1.5 pills (no problem), last week, I took 2 of them (no problem) and this morning I took 3 -YUCK. I don't know if it was just in my head or what but I felt miserable until 1:00 this afternoon......Next week I will take the 3 again and see what happens. I just love this group, it is so nice to be able to read and share all the experiences of this RA trip. Thank you all for being there. Guest guest
I took MTX pills (6 per week) for quite a while. When it was determined that I needed a somewhat higher dose, I was moved to injection. I am now back at the same dose as the 6 pills, but I still do it by injection. I find that I don't get as nauseous using the injection as I did when taking the pills. I also happen to think it is much more effective when taken by injection. Thanks, Miriam > > Hi All, > > I require everybodys suggestions on which is better way to take MTX medications, is injections better than tablets. > I take MTX tablets every week end, I feel nausea and i cant eat anything atleast for 2 days i go weak cas of the same.. > But on the other hand few people suggested if injection would work better than tablets, by which i can over come my week end troubles.. > > If any body had proplems similar to mine please suggets...... > > Thanks > Prathiba > > > --------------------------------- > Enjoy this Diwali with Y! Guest guest
I had trouble with MTX....finally just couldn't tolerate that sick feeling at all (but I have a weak stomach anyway)....this board really is a great place for information, encouragement, and just knowing you aren't alone in this. Friends and family are great, but unless you've lived through this stuff....well, understandably...they can only support you from thier perspective....and I don't know about you....but I don't like putting every little detail on them. This board seems to have enough people with different backgrounds/lifestyles and the advice always seems genuinely given....I appreciate that. Not preachy or one sided, and definitely full of real life experiences. I knew I bought this computer for something BESIDES sollitaire!!! LOL. Have a good weekend all! p.s. it's been 2 weeks with the new knee and I feel great! Stay positive. Guest guest
Kathy, are you taking Folic Acid along with the Methotrexate? Most doctors prescribe 1 mg Folic Acid daily for anyone taking Methotrexate. You can get it OTC at 400 mcg or 800 mcg, or by prescription for a higher dose. You might try taking one 800 mcg pill daily till you can get other instructions from your doctor. That should help some at least with the side effects, and some people find that the side effects vanish. It should be less than $5 for a pretty good size bottle (100 pills or more). God bless. ----- Original Message ----- From: Kathy Jeanson Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Friday, December 02, 2005 3:48 PM Subject: RE: MTX injections or Tablets Well I'm a newbie to the MTX pills.....My dr prescribed 3 tablets once a week...I am always cautious about new drugs, so the first week, I took 1.5 pills (no problem), last week, I took 2 of them (no problem) and this morning I took 3 -YUCK. Guest guest
Thanks for the info, and yes I am now taking folic acid. I was surprised to see how many good things are said about it. -----Original Message-----From: Rheumatoid Arthritis [mailto:Rheumatoid Arthritis ]On Behalf Of Harold Van TuylSent: Friday, December 02, 2005 10:02 PMRheumatoid Arthritis Subject: Re: MTX injections or Tablets Kathy, are you taking Folic Acid along with the Methotrexate? I was so tired when I started methotrexate - increasing my folic acid to 2 per day helped. Had to increase to the 6 tablets VERY slowly but am now tolerating it quite welll and it does help. I don't have much of an appetite after I take it for several days, but that is fine with me as I need to lose weight. My advice, be patient and give it a fair trial to see if it works for you.
