Guest guest
You need to set up a reward system for him that makes it better to go than to hold. Right now it's worth it in his mind to hold out. What does he like, care about, etc. We used hot wheels cars and planes. Whenever we got success to just sit and practice, we gave a skittles treat (we don't have problems with colors). When we got pee he got a car, when we got poop he got an airplane. It took about 6 months, but it worked. You can also set up a reward chart with stickers....every time he " practices going " (not necessary to produce) he earns a sticker. 5 stickers = a prize (you chose something small he likes) so he is invested in the chart and is willing to try. It worked well for us. nancy j a child is diagnosed with asd every 20 seconds From: SHARONS <ssmith0306@...> Subject: [ ] potty training.. help he holds all day! Guest guest
Sharon, Please have your kid checked for ADH (vasopresin hormone), his symptoms could as well be attributed to low vasopresin. A good nephrologist (I wàs lucky to find one) has to help you with this. Tests are not unexpensive but if you do find a low vasopresin, insurance HAS to pay for it since it is a known medical problem. Guest guest
My son's refusal to pee in any potty except the one at home led to a UTI - and an abx. He will hold it (and number 2) for hours. We have come to the point where we have been forced to do bribery. I hate ABA at school - but the old ABA way comes in handy for this. When we take a road trip or are out in public and we know he needs to go - especially when we are on round - we say ok, if you don't go, you don't get x - in our guy's case - he loves to get a scratch off lottery ticket from the " money machine " as he calls it. He just likes the nifty pics on the cards really, to him it is like a flash card I guess. So we say when we are on the road - use the potty and we will get you a ticket later. Costs us a dollar or two here and there when we are out - but at least he goes. Our little one could care less about stickers and such. Got to do what works. In his case he is ocd about cleanliness - and does not like dirty public toilets. Got to agree with the therapist - the pull ups have to go - or you could cut a hole in them, so they don't work right - and he will have incentive to use the potty - we tried this for a while. Eventually getting rid of the pull up altogether was necessary. Guest guest
Have him checked for UTI because starting and stopping like that will cause infection. He also may be holding urine in due to an infection or burning.
