Guest guest
My six year old son is in an autism classroom with 4 other boys in a public elementary. He is a runner. Occasionally he will escape the classroom. Generally, there is one lead teacher and two aides in this class. Usually someone is able to catch him as he is headed out the door but last week he escaped twice and made it all the way to the parking lot before they caught up to him. There is a road in front of the school where cars go about 20-30 mph so you see this is a real problem. My son is very fast and calculating. He waits until the teachers are distracted to make these getaways. Anyway, I have asked for more security on the classroom door but the fire code states that the door must open in ONE STEP so they can't put a lock on it. Any ideas or anyone ever hear of a similar circumstance where the problem was resolved? I am very fearful for my child's safety and the school's solution is to put another person in the room but I would rather have more security on the door. Thanks in advance.
