I was on a group plan when I was employed when I went out on Short term

disability my company still paid my insurance for me. Then when I

transitioned to Long term disability I had to pay my portion of my

insurance out of my dsiability check. Then when I was finally fired

from the company due to my RA I was on COBRA for a while...finally I

had to drop my coverage due to the expense. During the whole time I

was on hubby's insurance as well...so I had duel coverage which was

great. I had very little if anything to pay out my pocket.

Once I went on hubby's coverage alone it was still ok but most costly.

I am still on hubby's coverage which just changed to a PPO and is going

to be VERY expensive.

If I did not have group coverage I would not have any coverage at all

due to the fact there is no medicaid coverage in this state unless you

re on SSI.

My wife has RA and we both still work. I have a government job so she's

covered through my gov't insurance. It's an HMO and is pretty good

coverage, but the cost keeps inching up every year. We can just barely

afford the co-pays for her meds - like Humira, MTX, etc. She'd probably

have to skip some meds if we had to pay full price.

Medicare is my primary because my husband is in a very smal company, and blue cross is secondary, but the RX co-pays nearly make us go broke. The IVIG treatments are a fortune.. Have you thought of applying for SSD? Donk <d.knieriem@...> wrote: My wife has RA and we both still work. I have a government job so she's covered through my gov't insurance. I still work full time. I am the attendance clerk at a high school w/1100 students. my health insurance is thru my job. but the benefits will greatly reduce whenever I do retire. I have days when I wish I could be at home, but I still am chug-chug- chugging along. gentle hugs! Marcia" R.
