Guest guest
There's a lot of that going around as people stress about the holidays and overwork trying to get ready. It would help if you could adopt a "manana" attitude that sometimes means "tomorrow" but may also mean "not today". The only quick fix in the way of medication that I know of is Prednisone but that has some bad side effects and doesn't do much to slow down the permanent joint damage from RA. Please try to make time for yourself and get plenty of rest. Your loved ones are probably more interested in having you healthy than they are in the things you are doing for them. God bless. ----- Original Message ----- From: suzie Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Friday, December 16, 2005 8:52 PM Subject: flaring Hi all,I havent written for a while but i have been flaring really badly for a week now and i feel like talking to people who understand what i am going through. everything hurts and my fatigue is through the roof. i am having trouble getting around. talk about depressing. it is a beautiful sunny day outside yet i cant see past this damn pain.sw
Guest guest
Hi Susie, I agree with Harold about the holiday stress, but in addition, I don't know where you live, but the crazy weather by me (in NJ) is causing me some difficulties. In just like 3 days we have seen extreme cold, then snow, freezing rain, they 50 degrees and rain, then 35 degrees in sun! --- In Rheumatoid Arthritis , " suzie " <suzward05@y...> wrote: > > Hi all, > > I havent written for a while but i have been flaring really badly for > a week now and i feel like talking to people who understand what i am > going through. everything hurts and my fatigue is through the roof. > i am having trouble getting around. talk about depressing. it is a > beautiful sunny day outside yet i cant see past this damn pain. > > sw >
Guest guest
Thank you Harold and . Actually, i live in Australia and although we are meant to be in the heat of the sweltering summer, we are having a terrible time - i have only just take off my woollen jumpers in the last 2 days! You are also right about the Christmas period - can be a stressful time instead of a time of relaxation and joy. i have increased my prednisolone today from 5mg to 10mg - hasnt helped yet and i might go see my specialist tomorrow i think - i have been flaring really badly for a week now and am really sick with it. i dont want to be like this for christmas day! thanks so much. suzie > > > > Hi all, > > > > I havent written for a while but i have been flaring really badly for > > a week now and i feel like talking to people who understand what i am > > going through. everything hurts and my fatigue is through the roof. > > i am having trouble getting around. talk about depressing. it is a > > beautiful sunny day outside yet i cant see past this damn pain. > > > > sw > > >
Guest guest
Thank you Harold, yes i am also on Mtx and Humira. i also take celebrex (anti-inflamatory). i am generally pretty good on this combination (including prednisolone) but have had some work and family stressors recently which i think have triggered this flare. it helps so much talking to people who understand. thanks. > > I hope the Prednisolone works well for you. In the US we usually use Prednisone that is similar to Prednisolone, and I think it is a precursor of Prednisolone. I don't know why the US uses one and other countries use another even though they do basically the same thing. Either one usually works fast to help symptoms but doesn't do much to stop the permanent damage. I hope you have other medications to slow or stop the damage. > > Actually any weather change can trigger a flare but it is more common with things getting colder. Guest guest
Do I ever know exactly how you feel?!!! Oh man. I'm glad my left hand has finally swollen up to the point that strangers are staring at it when they notice it. At least then there is some real physical evidence of the pain I'm in. My shoulder hurt so bad the other night that it felt like King Kong himself had attempted to pull me limb from limb. Today it's my left hand a little in my right leg....you know that spot that hurts if you try to pull your knee up toward your body? It's right in the crook of your torso and your thigh, in front. Or at least it FEELS like that's where the pain originates. Geez. I SO know what you mean about wanting to talk to people who understand. I just got married this past summer and am trying to get pregnant. When we were together last fall/winter, I was on all my normal meds so this is the first my new husband has seen of the REAL R.A. in me. I feel so worthless and useless. I don't know HOW I'm going to wrap presents. BUT, there is always tomorrow. wendy from birmingham, AL age

Guest guest
Hi An interesting thing happened today. I had an appt with my chiropractor and he said to me, " you know that you are in the middle of a flare, don't you? " . I said " yes, believe me I know. " Then he told me that 'while' I'm flaring, stay away from food that is from the nightshade family, caffeine, white sugar, and I think he said, white flour. I thought that was pretty good advice since I'd read on one of these boards that food from the nightshade family was not good for us. I think it's cool that my chiropractor gave me more information and advice than my lousy rheumy !! Patsy El Mirage, AZ DX 2005 Stage 1 PBC AIH/SLE/RA/COPD Just a woman of letters....
