Guest guest
I am sorry that I offended you by this poem. I thought it was very nice. We all know someone who has loved ones there. Guest guest
You're missing the point. The poem is about killing and war and those things always have two sides. They involve other countries and other people, and this list is for RA, not for stating our political opinions and defending our right to occupy other countries, no matter what the reason. Politics is the most divisive issue there is -- why would you want to start trouble on a list that has nothing to do with politics? Missing your loved ones is a different issue -- who cares where they are? If you miss them, fine, but let's not make an issue out of our political viewpoints. As far as being "offended," no, I'm not offended. Personally, I just don't care. However, I think it's in poor taste to post a controversial viewpoint that is off topic when it has great potential to be offensive. Do you suppose that *everyone* on this list supports US foreign policy? Obviously not -- so let's leave the issue alone. ----- Original Message ----- From: Sandy Myers Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Sunday, December 25, 2005 10:28 AM Subject: Re: OT: Christmas Poem I am sorry that I offended you by this poem. Sometimes people forget that in these forums we feel we are among friends and want to share things that we consider worth sharing. Guest guest
, I take offence to your posting. Many times I have offered to share things I considered of value with this group. I take my time and either copy/paste or offer the link to follow and then get absolutely no replies, like you've all ignored me or something, yet Sandy sends in a poem, with her best intentions and you give her a hard time............Do you feel no kinship towards others here in the forum? Also in regards to being controversial, there is nothing more controversial than how to treat RA so there is no safe ground. Guest guest
Because I'm trying to be sensitive to those on this list who might be adversely affected? What if your son had been killed by a US soldier in the Mideast, or Kosovo? Would you think it was a beautiful poem? I'm here every night.">"It's my duty to stand at the front of the line,>That separates you from the darkest of times.>No one had to ask or beg or implore me,>>I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.>My Gramps died at 'Pearl on a day in December,">Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers.">My dad stood his watch in the jungles of 'Nam',>And now it is my turn and so, here I am.>>I've not seen my own son in more than a while,>But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.>Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,>The red, white, and blue... an American flag.>>"I can live through the cold and the being alone,>Away from my family, my house and my home>I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,>I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.>>I can carry the weight of killing another,>Or lay down my life with my sister and brother..>Who stand at the front against any and all,>To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall.">>"So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright,>Your family is waiting and I'll be all right.">"But isn't there something I can do, at the least,>"Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?>It seems all too little for all that you've done, For>being away from your wife and your son.">>Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret, ">Just tell us you love us, and never forget.>To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,>To stand your own watch, no matter how long.>>For when we come home, either standing or dead,>To know you remember we fought and we bled.>Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,>That we mattered to you as you mattered to us __________________________________________________
Guest guest
The Poem was fine in the beginning but then did get rather depressing and a bit too visual for my tastes. It had a decidedly political slant and was rather morbid. Yours, Deborah.
Guest guest
-- I don't think your hostility is ever necessary and is particularly sad at Christmas. I assume its source is something other than a poem and I'm sorry that you are in such pain. Guest guest
I'm sorry you're reading hostility in my post, because there was none at all. I made a polite request, tried to keep it objective and neutral; merely asked that we keep off topic posts of this nature off our list. What happened was ironic -- several people replied with extremely insulting, angry messages. The whole point that I've made several times is that politics/war is possibly the most divisive issue there is, and there is no reason to stir up a list over an issue that is off topic. ----- Original Message ----- From: Andie Fleming Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Tuesday, December 27, 2005 9:40 AM Subject: Re: OT: Christmas Poem -- I don't think your hostility is ever necessary and is particularly sad at Christmas. Guest guest
I'm not giving anyone a hard time; I'm asking that we do not post off-topic things regarding probably the most controversial thing there is. Your posts are not off-topic; they are about RA and how to treat it. ----- Original Message ----- From: Dorey Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Sunday, December 25, 2005 12:50 PM Subject: Re: OT: Christmas Poem , I take offence to your posting. Guest guest
Sandy, I agree with Joyce. That poem touched me. I didn't find anything offensive about the poem. That poem could have had any nations flag colors. I realize that this website is about arthritis and the treatment of RA, but I was moved by the poem and I hope you stay with us. Hang in there. Take care and God Bless. SusieJoyce McCrary <j.mccrary@...> wrote: Sandy I hope you stay with us. Not everyone was offended by you sending the poem.
