Hi I have had about 25 cortisone shots in my left knee (they usually drain it then too) and finally had total knee replacement a week before Thanksgiving. It only helped with the pain in the area it was injected, and usually it helped for about 3-6 months at a time. I wish you all the best. I am doing great with the new knee (no pain at all but I definitely feel a clicking when I walk) ...((odd, but not painful so....dr. says that's normal))Happy New Year to all Feel Better " R. I have had lots of cortisone shots and it is injected right into the

joint but It usually makes me feel better all over for about three

months. I definatly wouldnt move your knee if it causes you so much

pain. Its just not worth it and it my experience with that pain, the

more I move it the worse it feels. I understand about the pain moving

around in your body. It does that to me too, but when my pain moves it

leaves the previous area, does your go away in that area too? When I

have flares like that I never know what part of my body is going to

hurt next. I just wake up in the morning and it in a new area. Those

pains usually just subside after a short time and I try to stay

immobile as possible (with two kids and two dogs its kinda hard) The

cortisone shots wont help in those situations. I just take my pain

pills and pray it will be over soon.

Good luck

Cortizone for knees can leave salts behind after repeated use and doesnt last that long. If its specifically for RA there may be nothing else to do but if its OA which is degenerative bone, HYLURAN is now being given and works very well. No side effect from that either. Cortizone is a liquid steriod solution that is injected and will provide immediate relief in most cases. I had two simultaneous shots in my shoulders that were severely inflammed. I thought someone has injected me with acid. So much burning, and it traveled up to my neck and down my arm. Knees are better for shots because they have a larger joint space around the synovium. I think it varies from person to person. I've had many cortisone shots. The ones in my wrists and ankle and knee have lasted many years. The one in my knee I had the fluid drained from my knee then a shot into the joint. I have not had a shot in the same area since I started getting them in 1992.

Hi

I had cortinsone shots, the series of three shots in the knee, which only lasted less than a month and a half. Not worth the money. Then 2 years ago I had both knees replaced at the same time, best thing I ever did. Good Luck all!

What I found helped for the burning pain after the shot was I used my massage tool on the site every 30 minutes so the cortizone wouldn't pool in the joint, once I did that I didn't have that burning sensation, but i warn everyone, the side effects from cortizone injections can be severe, as I learned.

Hi, Sorry I haven't looked at my mail for awhile, for some reason it has been a hectic time. Yes, the cortizone shots are usually given in the joint that is painful. If it hurts, the doctor hit the right spot, sounds strange but true. The series of three shots that come if the cortizone doesn't help are also given in the knee. I really don't know if they are given elsewhere or not. Some people they last for a time others not, mine only lasted for a month or less. Wish the best for you. Jo Ann
