Guest guest
Personally, the first thing I would try is Brazil nuts. Just 3 has your daily requirements of Selenium. They are rich in protein and monounsaturated fats. They are also good for Thyroid health, and of course, is a simple and effective remedy against constipation. You could also try chocolate. Dark Chocolate actually has very high concentrations of antioxidants and is a diuretic - but is weaker than laxatives, so easier to use to just tone it done. There are companies that make all natural Dark Chocolate with no sugar added, if you are concerned about junk food in the diet. A very small amount should help in loosening the stools while providing antioxidants. But AVOID anything containing Milk in the Chocolate. The opioid peptides can make it worse and in that form the antioxidant content is weak. Allot of people think lack of Fiber can cause constipation but if you will notice, eating lots of fruits that are poor in Fiber won't really cause it. umm... This article here is a good read through: http://www.13.waisays.com/constipation.htm From: Tammy Kuhn <tkuhn1@...> Subject: [ ] constipation on supplements! Date: Sunday, October 31, 2010, 10:36 PM  Ok, we took a break from supplements while doing NAET this summer and just started back up with school starting. Back on just a few and constipation issues. I'm doing all Kirkman Labs hypoallergenic, he's a nt boy, age 8 with severe food allergies. Doing VIT E 100 IU, Vit c 250 mg, d-Biotin 1000 mcg, D-3 1000 iu and 100 mg of milk thistle. Added 1000 mg mag Fri, still no luck. If I pull everything, he'll be fine. We've not had luck with probiotics and we've stopped digestive enzymes, or actually just not added them back in yet. Any ideas guys? I'd appreciate it! I think I'll start over, with just the Vit C since he does have a cold right now. Add another in a couple weeks. He is allergic to soy, so maybe the Vit E is giving him issues. If he had a huge yeast issue, his stools would be mushy, soft, right? 1000 mcg biotin is nothing.... Guest guest
If you go for Orange Juice try " not from concentrate " with a high degree of Pulp. In addition to tasting better (well, I think so) it is more effective at stimulating proper digestion. Try drinking some Orange Juice when you take your supplements and that will go in with the same stools that are produced during those supplements. Guest guest
" Biotin requires magnesium for proper absorption, so can cause constipation and muscle cramps unless given with magnesium. " > If he had a huge yeast issue, his stools would be mushy, soft, right? Not necessarily. Constipation may be a sign of yeasts for some children. Much higher doses of biotin may be used for yeast control, and again, they require lots of magnesium. Galina

Back on just a few and constipation issues. This probably isn't an issue for your son, but mine has a phobia about school toilets and will " hold it in " all day if possible, which contributes to constipation. We try to allow extra time in the morning for him to do his business at home. > > If he had a huge yeast issue, his stools would be mushy, soft, right? Yeast seems to cause constipation at my house. Biotin requires magnesium, keep the 1000mg for a few days and see if that helps. Maybe add some taurine. > If he had a huge yeast issue, his stools would be mushy, soft, right? At my house, either fluffy or constipation for yeast. >>1000 mcg biotin is nothing.... If he is severely deficient in biotin, it will pull a lot of magnesium, even at lower doses. Guest guest
Thanks for your comments. The kid is peanut/nut free. We avoid " almost " all processed foods, there are little to none he can eat. Allergic to milk, soy, wheat, gluten, oats, peanuts, peas, eggs, bananas, apples, cranberry, strawberry. NAET hasn't helped. We have to be really careful with fruits. Trying to had some things back in and usually we get diarrhea from that. He has no issues at all, all summer until supplements started when school started! The only chocolate he gets is Enjoy life. Tammy [ ] constipation on supplements! Guest guest
Tammy, knowing how our time is at a premium already, might I suggest reading through " Enzymes for Autism " , or " Enzymes: Go With Your Gut " by DeFelice if you haven't already. Website is free, enzymestuff.com. The long list of food allergies sounds like enzymes might aid in repairing a leaky gut and alleviating some symptoms (unless we're talking about anaphylaxis)....let's hope. Guest guest
Make sure your vit E is soy-free. Most is soy derived. Constipation here means low mag. > > From: Tammy Kuhn <tkuhn1@...> > Subject: [ ] constipation on supplements! > > Date: Sunday, October 31, 2010, 10:36 PM > > > > Ok, we took a break from supplements while doing NAET this summer and just started back up with school starting. Guest guest
My son couldn't tolerate any form of magnesium or other supplements like Oxy-powder for constipation. After years of agonizing trouble, we came across Gilham's Magnesium calm.. and he never had a constipation issue after that. Also we give 5-6 gms of buffered Vit C in divided doses everyday. > > Ok, we took a break from supplements while doing NAET this summer and just started back up with school starting.
