Guest guest
Antibiotics dont cause autism. It can destroy the good flora in the gut along with the bad one. If the infection is serious then things can get out of hands very soon. Please listen to your doctor. If this doctor is a DAN, and is prescribing antibiotics to you then go to a regular pediatrician and see whether it is really necessary or not. Guest guest
Hi , My kid was a severe gut kid for 2.5 years, he is still very very sensitive. Prior to the " cascade of disaster " he suffered, we used amoxiciclin several times, but I believe any abx is potentially dangerous, especially in an already toxic kid/kid w damaged immune system. Give lots of probiotics 3 hrs after abx dosage to try to protect his gut flora. Guest guest
Because doctors overprescribe antibiotics in many practices. This might be a situation where antibiotics aren't even warranted or a situation where you might be foolish to refuse them. Avoid any in the fluoroquinolone class (sorry if the spelling is off). They are a high risk for developing secondary bacterial infections (c.difficile, MRSA) plus there have been people who claim they suffered horrible neurological side effects. These abx have the ability to block GABA receptors in the brain, which can lead to depression, seizures and some other scary effects. Cipro is the common one. Many have been removed from clinical use or unavailable in the US. Augmentin (Amoxicillin) is the one that caused a stir a while back with Autism. BUT, they were talking about the use in kids with repeat infections. Not one time use. Guest guest
HI Pam When people say " repeated uses " or " rounds " of antibiotics what do they mean? We had 4 days of antibiotics once = would that be classified as repeated uses or repeated rounds? Thanks From: phaselow@... Guest guest
Repeat use means chronic infections. Typically, they are talking about those kids who had 10 or more ear infections as an infant and toddler. Those parents probably were told to use Tylenol, too. Tylenol depletes glutathione, which is our body's defense against toxins. Many of these kids are put on low doses of DAILY antibiotics for several *years* with the thought that this will keep infections at bay. Two of my nieces went through this and both are chronically ill as teenagers. Same with their father. It is sad. Neither has Autism, but one is likely ADD with definite learning disabilities. 4 days of antibiotics would be considered 1 round. Occasional antibiotic use in a person is not harmful (generally speaking). Sometimes you just have to resort to antibiotics. They are an important part of medicine but have been misused greatly. Many infections can be viral or bacterial. Viral infections will get no help from antibiotics. Try using Oil of Oregano daily. I buy North American Herb and Spice WILD OoO at The Vitamin Shoppe. They are very small caps. I give them to my kids (1-2/day) in the winter and they rarely get sick. I call it 'my shield'. Oil of Oregano is a powerful anti-bacterial/anti-viral. The taste is horrible and the oil is caustic, so I don't recommend buying the drops (think pine needles). Guest guest
Still, make sure you load up on probiotics. Approximately 1 in 9 people do not recover their beneficial microflora six months after antibiotics. http://www.cbc.ca/health/story/2008/11/19/antibiotics-stomach.html > > Repeat use means chronic infections.
