Guest guest
Ah, Yes, dear old L5. I had surgery almost 3 weeks ago to clear everything pressing on that nerve and it's feeling much better. I can now come down off of the morphine I have been taking for pain for months. It can be fixed in some cases. Thank God it was in mine. Guest guest
Mine is a constant ache from my lower back across the side of my hip, down the side and front of my thigh, back of calf, and top of my ankle...I used to think it was a hamstring issue, but my PT says it is sciatica...can't go for more than a couple of hours without it reaching a level that requires some pain relief or else I am a mess and cannot stand it... Guest guest
Yuck! I'm so sorry that she's still in pain AND she's so sad about having arthritis. It just stinks! showed no signs of active arthritis during her last 2 apts but still complained daily of pain, specifically in her legs and feet. Dr noticed one foot slightly smaller than the other at last apt and decided on an MRI of that foot. It showed active arthritis and she will now be starting Enbrel. So... Lucy could certainly be doing something similar. If the new med is Meloxicam, was put on that after Naproxen and it really helped. Celebrex has worked better though and been dramatically better on her stomache. Good luck with Lucy and hope she's doing better soon! Guest guest
Has anyone experienced the kind of leg pain that Lucy is having? She says it is not her hips or knees or ankles, but her thighs and calves. I read online that this could be transferred pain from her joints and that young kids often have a hard time telling where pain is. Any other ideas? Guest guest
Hate to sound like a broken record, but please remember that back, foot, neck, leg, etc pain can be from spondylitis. That affects the tendons in the body, as well as the spine. So where you have tendons, basically running all over your body, that area can also be inflammed. Just a heads up, Michele ( 22, spondy) ________________________________ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Billie-jo Jary Sent: Saturday, June 27, 2009 4:05 PM Subject: Re: Re: leg pain a has the same problem with her leg muscles and her back sometimes. Guest guest
Michele, How does spondylitis differ from jra? Are they in the same category? She does have neck and back pain too and I've just put it down as jra, but how would I or better yet, how would the rheumy know the difference? thanks. Guest guest
They are essentially the same thing, just what they affect can be different. I mention it because many people assume that you can only have joint pain from JA and there are variations, such as spondy or uveitis, that can cause other areas of inflammation. With a form of spondyloarthropy tendons can be affected and sometimes you find organ involvement which is not typical with something like systemic or pauci or poly. People with spondy can often be diagnosed with Crohn's as well. There are certain meds that were considered to be more effective in treatment, like sulfasalazine, but now with the biologics, they have different things to try. Spondylitis is seen as similar to psoriatic arthritis. The thing with AS or JAS is that the spine can be much more affected, even leading to fusion. Today with so many advances in treatments, the outlook is much better. For his diagnosis was originally pauci JRA. What happened, as often does, as his treatment continued more things began to be affected. He complained of pain in his hips and the dr felt inflammation in his pelvic rim, not his hips. She said that the tendons were inflamed. Also his Achilles tendon began to be inflamed. As time went on it seemed that most of his problems were in the tendons. We realized he could not bend over and touch his toes. Again because of the inflammation. It is more a series of things being affected. There is a blood test related to this, however it does not say one way or another that a person has the disease. Rather, if you are HLA B27 positive and have the symptoms, you have a higher likelihood of having organ involvement. If you are negative, like my son, you are less likely. You can still have the disease, as the diagnosis is based on symptoms. As to treatment, the current rheumy has said that basically you treat it the same as JA or RA. They are all autoimmune diseases. It is just that what is affected, and what meds help, can vary. You can check out the website www.spondylitis.org for some more info. Hope this helps some, Michele ( 22, spondy) ________________________________ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Amy Hendrickson Sent: Wednesday, July 01, 2009 2:05 PM Subject: Re: Re: leg pain Michele, How does spondylitis differ from jra? I am waiting on an order of cal mag chewable wafers until I can figure out how to get him to drink the sour/gritty powder I barely manage taking. He is taking cod liver oil daily. @@@ not Bee but she probably won't be online until morning and I have read that calcium without magnesium can cause cramps. Here's a quote from Bee's site about calcium and magnesium. " Muscle cramps in the feet and lower legs usually indicate you need more magnesium, and possibly less calcium. If you get muscle cramps, first increase magnesium by 100-150 mg. If that doesn't help, lower calcium by 100-150 mg. " You can find more info by going to her site and doing a search. Bee has told people before not to take calcium without magnesium and to wait until the other supplement arrives. Also, chewables usually have sweeteners and are not on the diet. I know it's difficult when you want the best for your little one and he doesn't understand. I wonder if you could try making the egg drink or the lemon flan and giving him just a small amount with the magnesium stirred into it. Best Wishes, Doree

No one should ever take calcium without magnesium, like Doree wrote! She is right about chewable wafers too - so I suggest you cancel your order and get the correct kind. I think his shin pain is mainly because you are giving him calcium without magnesium, so stop the calcium until you have the correct forms of both cal and mag! The best, Bee P.S. Amy, would you please " trim your messages? " Thanks.
Guest guest
> > I have been experiencing pain in my left leg for some time. .... > Any thoughts re any possible Lyme connection? I have intermittent pain in the left leg (shin), which started sometime after I got lyme. It is a radiating pain that seems to come from inside the bone, feels a bit like the bone is broken. It goes away from time to time and then reappears often for a few months. Definitely not related to 'mechanical stress' or something like that, there is no obvious cause for it. I'm not quite sure if the source of the pain is really in the shin bone. Some years ago I had severe pain in the shoulder (from artrosis) which started out as a very similar pain in the upper armbone. Only after many months I discovered that the pain was coming from the shoulder, and not from the armbone itself. FWIW, I once read that such pain in the legs can be a sign of Babesia (or Bartonella?). I also have pain in the pads of feet and hand, and some other symptoms that could point to coinfections. I have been tested twice for Babesia and Bartonella but both tests found nothing; I'm still IgG + IgM positive for Bb though, despite 1 year of AB and 1.5 year of Buhner. Hi , surgery definitely NOT recommended! I was so desperate that I started researching this solution, but after reading many experiences from others I decided that is really the last option. There are too many things that can go wrong (more so than with knee/hip surgery) and it seems many patients need permanent pain killers despite 'sucessfull' surgery in my case they think it was caused by small calcium particles in the joint or under the tendons (they cause pain as soon as you try to use the arm/shoulder muscle). At times I was unable to move my arm for a few days. It might as well have been my first Lyme experience, because it started shortly after I lived on the edge of a forest for a year (years later I discovered there are lots of tickes there, didn't know about it then). My current Lyme episode started with severe pain (radiculitis) in the knee. My shoulder pain almost completely disappeared after five visits to a chiropractor. It comes back from time to time but is not a real problem now (I can easily sleep through it and can use my arm normally). if the pain is bad you could try devils claw; be careful because some people react strongly to it. If I remember well Jim posted about this last year on the list.
Guest guest
Hi, , In capsulitis, the joint capsule forms adhesions to itself, limiting your range. And when you accidentally go outside that range, the capsule, or the adhesions, tear, causing stunning pain, which gradually diminishes. It's not really an inflammatory process, though it is exquisitely painful. Usually it is associated with hypertension and development of trigger points in the rotator cuff muscles, and most of the musculature involved in shoulder movement (or restriction). That said, I am extremely good at shoulders. Usually I can get them pain-free in a session or two. Perhaps you can find a good orthopedic massage therapist near you? D. Guest guest
Ive also had the leg pain, more on then off the last 15 yrs. It is horribly painful and relentless. Nothing seems to help to much with it. Since I dont have money for Drs, no ins., to sick to work, single mom with 2 kids, one very sick with Lyme also and other circumstances, I have to try and just treat symptoms for now and this sounds like something that would make my pain much more tolerable. Do you have to have a rx to get this KICK creme? Or can I just call this place and order it? I wish I could get some sort of pain medication, that would change my life from night to day..... Guest guest
I've been dealing with pain in my legs - especially the right shin for a few months now. It keeps me awake at night and sometimes is so painful that my leg buckles under me when I try to stand up. I started using an experimental device that uses 880 LEDs and frequencies. It eases the pain within a few minutes and completely erases it within a few monutes more - better than anything else I've tried. A friend has used it on a a badly bruised shoulder and it helped with that pain too and got well within a few days. I got it from Jim Meissner, jpmeissner@... - he can give you more information about how it works. Carol Monroe Nature doesn't judge. It's pure love, pure being, perfectly in the moment because it's not thinking all the time. Such is the nature of enlightenment.
