Guest guest
What parasites, specifically? it is a broad spectrum antiparasitic. Normally, it seems MDs prescribe something more like Vermox (mebendazole). http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0000418 It seems to carry more cautions than Vermox. I don't know what that means. Pam > > My daughter's stool test just came back positive for parasites. (I was a bit surprised because I always wonder how our children develop parasitic infections.) Guest guest
, Unless he found taenia solitaria or strongyloids, I don't see why he is prescribing ivermectin. I agree vermox is easier to do... Isa Enviado desde mi oficina móvil BlackBerry® de Telcel [ ] Re: Parasites in stool What parasites, specifically? it is a broad spectrum antiparasitic. Guest guest
The parasite is strongyloides. Thx for the info. > > > > My daughter's stool test just came back positive for parasites. Guest guest
Well, it does sound like there is 'documented sensitivity' to the drug. This one carries some more risks, but you are not using it for a suspected case of strongyloides, but a confirmed one. Don't use it if your child weighs under 33lbs. That is pretty clear. Or, if they are truly immunocompromised (and I don't mean Autism automatically qualifies as being immunocompromised). Good luck! If you have a child with GI symptoms, this will likely make those go away. Pam > > > > > > My daughter's stool test just came back positive for parasites. Guest guest
Thanks for all of the info! She is 10 and 70 lbs, and we've gotten to the point where she is pretty " healthy " , meaning not many infections any longer, and finally clearing up some old plantar warts that just weren't going away. So I think her immune system is working pretty well. No GI symptoms. We do still have some trouble with behaviors/tantrums (recently returned). Could a parasitic infection cause this? > > > > > > > > My daughter's stool test just came back positive for parasites. Guest guest
, When treating strongyloids, the dose has to be very precise to smack them down, and be sure that they are " damaged " enough and don't have the energy to migrate, they usually move towards the lungs. Watch out for sudden cough or respiratory problems when treating this, give doses a.m so you can observe your child. Guest guest
Thanks Isa. Guest guest
Not me but a good friend had to treat this, she was not too careful and she suffered the " migration " I am referring to. She was kind of immunosupressed since she had just beat up cancer (with naturals!) And I believe it also contributed, but anyway, I prefer to tell you to keep your radar in full-motion from the start...right? My friend didn't know this could happen. Blessings Isa Enviado desde mi oficina móvil BlackBerry® de Telcel [ ] Re: Parasites in stool Thanks Isa. Guest guest
Well, pinworms made my son feel miserable. It was likely due the constant anal itching and fact he was not able to verbalize what he was feeling at that time. Also, probably sleep deprived due to the night time itching and possibly stomach pain. All that subsided GREATLY after we successfully treated for pinworms. I hope you see the same improvements in behavior that we saw. Pam > > > > > > > > > > My daughter's stool test just came back positive for parasites. Guest guest
That would make me miserable too! I hope this works well for us too. She doesn't ever complain of GI symptoms, but I find that I never know ahead of time what treatment will work and what won't, and we should probably get rid of the parasites either way. So here we go. Thanks very much for the help. > > > > > > > > > > > > My daughter's stool test just came back positive for parasites. Guest guest
I guess I didn't say this, but by 'feeling miserable' I also meant ACTING miserable! He was very difficult during the worst of the infestation (which lasted about 6 months before we figured it out). It took less than 72 hours after the first Vermox for him to settle down and behave better. It was so cool! He never complained of GI distress, but looking back on it we noticed behaviors that likely meant he was experiencing discomfort (duh. like stopping short and bending over at the waist; how dumb could we be?).
