Guest guest
Hi, all ... Following the insurance thread here and wanted to pass on the following: California has a program for those who are unable to get other heath insurance which is called the Major Risk Medical Insurance Program (MRMIP) which is still costly but includes everything pretty much that "regular" health insurance covers including HMO or PPO, covers prescriptions, mental health, etc. I have a friend who has this coverage and i believe that she pays about $600 per month which seems high but since she is on several high-cost medications, she saves just on prescriptions alone. I believe other states have similar programs, too. I think that after 3 years on the program you are able to switch to one of the private insurance companies - the companies are required to cover these folks as a condition of doing business in the state. There are several choices of companies who run this program for the state, one of which is Blue Shield. I hope this may provide an alternative to some of you. Here is the CA url : http://www.mrmib.ca.gov/ Check for similar programs in your state. Jack McGuire - Carlsbad CA FareChase - Search multiple travel sites in one click.
