Guest guest
Thanks Mark. You had suggested to me to try Taurine. I bought it but when I read the back of the bottle and I was going to return the bottles of Taurine. I still was going to take it in time. I just need to find more info about it. I will check out that book. Thanks again > Listmates, > > Been away for a few days at the DAN conference in Virginia and have > watched the thread about taurine. Guest guest
She is wrong. Tsujii and Tamai explained a method to cross the blood brain barrier using the sodium chloride channel. This is a discussion I've had with other neuros and they claim it can't come across yet it is there. It can't be made in the brain and teleportation doesn't exist so it has to have a way. In health, Mark Schauss [ ] Taurine Hi I know I posted about taurine before. I just went to my neurologist and she said the only way to get the taurine to the brain is with a catheter(spelling????)The brain does not absorb the taurine by taking it in by pill form. Guest guest
Mark, I have read about it also, but I knew when I brought it up to her that I was not going to get a postive resonds. She said none of her patience are taking it. Taurine makes me feel so tired for about an hour, like I just took my medication or something. I tried 500mg a day for two days and that is how I felt. I stopped and am going try it again. Am I taking too much of it? I was even thinking about giving it to my daughter who is 14 and has anxiety bad. I am afraid and I don't know how much????? Guest guest
, I heard that you should start off by taking only 250mg a day and then increasing it as your body become used to it. Guest guest
Hi My research indicated that it could be started at 500mg a day in divided doses. As it is eliminated from the body very slowly, the recommendation was to reduce the dose to 250mg after a month. In actual fact, when I gave it to my daughter I started her on 250mg a day, then reduced to 125mg a day. Guest guest
Grace, I will try that for I felt like crap at first. I was so tired that I stopped for I had my menstrual cycle at the same time. So I was not sure what it was from. Do you know what the amount is for children? Do you give it to your child? I wanted to give it to my daughter also for anxiety. I am scared to do it. For myself I will try anything. Thanks, > > > She is wrong. Tsujii and Tamai explained a method to cross the > > blood > > > brain barrier using the sodium chloride channel. Guest guest
, No I have never given it to , but I believe that the dose for children is 250mg but you might want to start at 125mg. I've done a lot of reading about taurine and it seems pretty safe to give children. I haven't given it to because you can only buy it at a health food store or Vitamin World and I haven't made my way there yet. Let me know how it works. Guest guest
Elise, My daughter, is currently taking 1000mg a day of taurine. I have learned from my research about taurine that it will not harm you in any way, in fact, it will help control seizures. Start with 500 mg once a day and then increase it after about 2 weeks, this is what I did for and so far so good. Good Luck! Grace
Guest guest
Mark, What does glycine do? I've also read that when taking an amino acid for longer than 1 month that you should also take an amino complex, what do you think about this? Guest guest
, My daughter has been on it for several months now, I had started her on 500mg at dinner time and now I also give it to her at breakfast as well so she's on 1000mg a day. Keep us posted on how she's doing. Grace
Guest guest
, I do the same with my daughter. I continue to do this for awhile then I stop because it can be very expensive to have two of us on them and I'd rather spend the money to help her. Guest guest
Grace, You are so right. Taurine is considered one of the few amino acids where side-effects are only seen at dosages so high that it would be incomprehensible to take (glycine is the other one). 1000 mg is very safe but starting at 500 mg is absolutely the right way to start. Guest guest
I finally got my daughter started on Taurine 500mg TODAY. I was told about taurine from mark awhile ago and I was hesitant about taking it. I gave it to her for her anxiety. The doctor wanted to put her on prozac and I felt I just didnt try enough other things. Then she had severe menstrual cramps. I was told that anxiety could also be hormone related. And with the cramps I felt I will try even harder. Someone just mentioned that the taurine is safe so I gave it to her. Thank you for your comments on this site. it is very helpful. My next move is to get hormones checked and more vitamins for her and different diets. She is 15 and a junk eater when she can get her hands on the food. Guest guest
Elise, I will write you offlist too but I thought I should say this onlist - Whenever I have begun to give my son a supplement or vitamin I have taken it right along with him. This helps in several ways. 1. He doesn't feel like he is a freak having to take things no one else does. 2. I get an idea of what possible side effects to be alert for...loose bowels, constipation, stomache, things he may have trouble expressing to me. 3. Sometimes I find myself benefiting from taking them myself. i.e. probiotics, B6, B12, B-Complex, Fish Oils
Guest guest
Grace, I will increase in a couple of weeks, but can she take a 1000mg all at once with a meal. Or does it have to be two different times during the day? Is your daughter taking it for anxiety also? By the way thanks for the comment about the taurine being safe. It has been sitting in my cabinet for a while. Thanks lisa > , > > My daughter has been on it for several months now, I had started her on 500mg > at dinner time and now I also give it to her at breakfast as well so she's on > 1000mg a day. Keep us posted on how she's doing. > > Grace > > >
Guest guest
, The bottle I have states that you should take the taurine 3 times a day with meals. Some people take it three times a day, but I give it to only twice a day with breakfast and dinner to even it out and I believe this way it stays in their system longer.
