iHerb, in 8-oz containers. Cheap, but the weight will quickly move the post

charge into an expensive bracket if buying a few.

I keep forgetting to take it - I deliberately left it on

my kitchen counter where I couldn't miss it but I have been so busy I have not

been in the kitchen very much this past week. I promise I will start again, and

this time, I will keep it next to my computer.

Hi Sheila;

How goes your taurine experiment ?

Hi,

I haven't heard of it in relation to pica, but I read on Autism: effective biological treatment that it should be one of the first supps to be tried, even before CLO as it will help digest and absorb fatty acids, especially if blood cysteine is low.

I give it to my (epileptic) daughter with the even supps and she sleeps better when she gets it

She was also mouthing/chewing absolutely everything (her clothes, hair and toys) when I heard that ZINC helps with mouthing, I started giving her extra zinc and the mouthing stopped..some moths before I started Taurine. I hope it also helps with pica

Hi There,Someone I know has been told to start supplementing Magnesium/Taurine for PICA. My son eats soil (only dark) and it goes up and down in waves so I was interested in this. When I read up on it it said that it's used in children with seizures effectively and that it should be used with Vit C, magnesium and B6. For those of you with far more experience then me, could you please tell me if you've heard of taurine being supplemented to help with PICA? Thanks,

I would second the recomendation for zinc, that definitely helped us when was mouthing everything - particularly any metal objects.  Sorry I don't know anything about taurine.

I use Kirman's capsules. I break them open and put in juice or smoothies. It is tasteless, I have tested it myself because my son can pick up even the slightest "off" taste. I use 's aloe which is tasteless and he knows when I put it in his water. He calls it juice. He argues with me when I say have some water, he says "NO it's not water...it's juice". How he knows is beyond my comprehension. It tastes like water to me!

Hi,Can anyone please tell me if they've come across a brand of Taurine that is reasonably tasteless? Dear son cannot swallow any kind of tablets or capsules so I have to break open capsules and mix everything into acai juice.Thank you,

Have you tried adding 5htp at night? Melatonin helps them fall asleep

and 5 htp helps them stay asleep.

We have no used taurine as a suplement but I am aware that the right amount of

taurine is necessary to prevent seizures. So we tried to include natural foods

in our diet that are necessary to ensure that we do not become deficient

in taurine. As far as I know Taurine is one of the numerous nutrients that are

necessary to prevent seizures.

http://www.herbs2000.com/amino_acids/taurine.htm

From the above link, " The tissues of the brain are protected by the presence of

taurine, this is especially so if the brain tissue is dehydrated in anyway.

Supplements of taurine are often used in the treatment of mental disorders such

as anxiety, and chronic problems like epilepsy, it is also used to curb

hyperactivity, improve poor brain function and alleviate problems such as

seizures. The brain tissues of children contain up to four times the amount of

taurine found in the brains of adults - this signifies the importance of taurine

in the process of growth and development. There may thus be a connection between

a deficiency of taurine in the developing brain and the development of epileptic

attacks in people. People affected by epilepsy also often suffer from a

deficiency of the trace mineral zinc - the absence of this essential mineral in

the required amounts might be the cause of this deficiency in the levels of

taurine in the body. Taurine and

zinc help in maintaining function of the eyes; a deficiency of taurine and zinc

may impair vision. Taurine supplementation may be good for children with Down

syndrome and muscular dystrophy. In some clinics taurine is used for treatment

of breast cancer.

Many types of metabolic diseases can lead to the loss of excessive amounts of

taurine through the urine. High loss of taurine through the urine can be induced

by cardiac arrhythmias, some disorders of platelet formation, certain kinds of

intestinal problems, or an overwhelming infection of candida. The presence of

extreme physical or emotional stress, the presence of a zinc deficiency, or the

excessive consumption of alcohol can all induce high loss of taurine in the

urine. The ability of the body to utilize taurine in a proper manner is also

affected by the excessive consumption of alcohol - this situation is normally

evident in long term alcoholics. The requirement for taurine in the body is

increased by diseases such as diabetes. At the same time, using supplements of

taurine and cystine can reduce the need for insulin in the body.

Food sources that are rich in taurine include high protein food sources such as

eggs, fish and meats, and dairy products like milk, however, taurine is not

found in vegetable proteins in any significant amounts. Taurine can be

synthesized from the amino acid cysteine of the synthesis which occurs inside

the liver and from the amino acid methionine everywhere else in the body - the

presence of sufficient amounts of the vitamin B6 is a requirement for the

synthesis of taurine. Synthesis of taurine is especially crucial for the

majority of vegetarians, as vegetarian diets lack taurine. Taurine supplements

are required by all individuals suffering from genetic or metabolic disorders

which may prevent the synthesis of taurine.

Taurine is not consumed in any significant quantity by vegans - who are

vegetarians without dairy products or eggs in the diet. However, even vegans

synthesize enough taurine in the body to avoid a deficiency of the compound in

the body. Taurine is also not synthesized in sufficient levels by infants; this

lack of synthesis is usually made up for by the abundant taurine present in

human milk and taurine contained in most infant formulas. Taurine levels are

also generally found at a lower level in the blood of diabetics. "

My husband takes it and loves it. He says it makes him feel calm and relaxed.

I've tried it on both my kids and they instantly get diarrhea no matter how low

of a dose I try. My daughter also gets tantrums with it.

At my house, taurine was required as part of mito cocktail and also for the

proper absorption of magnesium. Other people report that it helps control

seizures.

Guys,

Does anyone know about the taurine giving brown color to the stool?

I need to know if this is true, I realy need my sons BM to get their color back.

I give him enzymes, probiotics, candex, veggies, no ofending foods, GFCF, etc,

everything basic. But since in treatment he lost his stool color, now they are

ligth brown/yellowish, well form, no too bad odor, but the only thing off is the

color, I have posted this before, but I guess nobody relates to this. any input?

For you and I'll have to say yes, Kirkman is harder for me to get but there is nothing special about Taurine, just have to check for fillers, I try not to get anything in now that's not SCD legal, folks have a hard enough time with SCD supps as it is so I try not to add to it.

NOW, its clean, SCD legal, veggie caps not gelatin (that's an issue for some cultures so I am trying to avoid new stock items with that also) 1000mg per cap, 100 caps, £14.99, Kirkman worked out too expensive
