Guest guest
How about some probiotics? Have you been giving those? From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of DIANA Sent: Friday, May 07, 2010 2:51 PM Subject: [ ] EAR TUBE SURGERY/ ANTIBIOTICS Our son, 22 mts. old., had ear tube surgery for both his ears yesterday. The ENT sent him Cipro ear drops to be put in his ear 3x a day for three days. He's been on GSE liquid 1x per day with Biotin 2x a day for a week now to control his yeast. Today he seems to be very aloof, with A LOT of stimming and hyper. He wasn't like this before the surgery but I don't know if a combination of the anesthesia and antibiotics is making him like this..:/ I feel so sad and as if he's regressing after a lot of hard work that I've been putting into reseraching his diets/ supplements. Can someone please tell me if this is temporary or if I should up his GSE/ Biotin dosage? I also have MethylB12 that I haven't tried yet on him, should I give this a try on him now? Only asking this because I read that nitrous oxide (sp?) the gas anasthetic can deplete their B12. Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you very much! Guest guest
No, unfortunately where we live there's only one health food store and the probiotics they carry aren't dairy free. I tried ordering it online but it says that it needs a two day delivery because it needs to be refrigerated and since we're overseas this won't work for us. Is there a good probiotic that doesn't require refrigeration and is GF/CF, that you know of? Thanks for responding! > > How about some probiotics? Cipro can be a problem for our kids, though maybe in the ears it is less of an issue. The probiotics which don't require refrigeration are usually in capsules - Culturelle or Jarrow EPS which www.iherb.com ships internationally. I don't know how well they survive if removed from the capsules but you could try. Note that GSE kills off the probiotics as well as yeast so don't dose them together. Guest guest
My son was quite irritated, grouchy, and out of sorts just from his sedated MRI. This was after his initial diagnosis when I knew NOTHING about methylation. I've posted some links that have helped me to understand the function of methylation and how to enhance/reboot it. Please read: www.vsan.org/rok.../Genetic_Analysis_Report_summary_sheet_1.pdf http://drmyhill.co.uk/wiki/CFS_-_The_Methylation_Cycle (ugh, wiki, but good article nonetheless ) http://www.detoxpeople.eu/index.php?l=B12 Wish you the best. Guest guest
Just asking because the ears are an avenue of detox. When we were going dairy free, my older son and I noticed that when we ate dairy again, we would get excessive ear wax, in other words, it was our body's way of eliminating whatever about the dairy it didn't like. I suppose it could be other things. > > > > > > Our son, 22 mts. old., had ear tube surgery for both his ears yesterday. The ENT sent him Cipro ear drops to be put in his ear 3x a day for three days. Guest guest
Yes, start the MB12 right away.  Did your son receive Nitrous Oxide? If you do not know what medications/sedation/anesthesia he received, it is important that you get a copy of his medical records (for the next time he needs a procedure requiring sedation). This wil be imporatnt information to know for the future.  In a presentation at the Autism One Conference in May 2009, Sonja Hintz, RN, BSN and Sym Rankin CRNA, APN from True Health Medical Center in Naperville, Illinois (where they work with Dr. Anju Usman) discussed the risk of anesthesia in ASD children and proposed the following:  Prior to the procedure, discuss the following with the anesthesiologist: Ask not to use Nitrous Oxide (as many ASD kids have B12 deficiency) 2.  Consider placement of an IV without sedation (midazolam (Versed) or other) 3. Inform the anesthesiologist of all medications and supplements your child is taking at the time of the procedure Make the anesthesiologist aware of IgE allergies Make the anesthesiologist aware that your child has difficulty detoxing Discuss any other drugs that might also be given during the procedure  After the anesthetic, implement the following liver detoxification protocol: Activated charcoal DMG, TMG, methyl B12, methylfolate Epsom Salt baths Silymarin (milk thistle) Bentonite Clay Antioxidants- vitamin A, C, E Magnesium Reduced Glutathione  Many ASD children actually have undiagnosed MTHFR deficiency making nitrous oxide a poor choice. And some ASD children have an undiagnosed mitochondrial disorder which impairs energy production and makes anesthesia selection, procedures and precautions even more critical. Between 6-20+% of ASD children actually have an underlying mitochondrial disoder... and many parents are unaware of this fact until an adverse anesthesia reaction occurs. For many, this is the first overt symptom.  You can e-mail me off list if you have specific questions.   From: jeffnteddi <hopefulchild99-asd@...> Subject: [ ] Re: EAR TUBE SURGERY/ ANTIBIOTICS Date: Monday, May 10, 2010, 2:34 PM  JARROW probiotics, enteric coated and good array of beneficial organisms that target candida, etc. http://www.vitacost .com/Jarrow- Formulas- Jarro-Dophilus- EPS-Enhanced- Probiotic- System#Ingredien tFacts Take care! Guest guest
My ears used to get plugged up too, just means you are constantly detoxing something. When the immune system gets overwhelmed you get sick. Eating the same allergens over and over used to make me sick - it looked just like a sinus infection, either it would build up or I would eat lots of the allergen in a short period of time and then get a " sinus infection " . I rarely have them anymore. I occassionally get a stuffy nose after a chelation round. > > > > > > > > > > Our son, 22 mts. old., had ear tube surgery for both his ears yesterday. Guest guest
Liz....question. My son doesn't produce any ear wax. He use too....I just can't remember when it stopped. It may have been after a strong antibiotic dose. Does that mean he is not detoxing? Because two of my boys get excessive earwax (one is dry and crumbly...?), but they have to go and get it removed every few months. Now that they are casein free, I wonder if it will resolve somewhat? My son had excessive ear wax because his body did not properly absorb fats. Removing milk helped only to the extent that I had removed the milk *fat* from his diet. Once I started mito cocktail, his ear wax issue resolved, and I was able to feed him fats again, including EFAs, which caused great gains. I wrote what my son needed here http://www.danasview.net/mar05.htm Dana

Guest guest
Another take on ear wax: My son has problems with caked ear wax. Baking soda/water (1/4tsp per cup of distilled water) drops help to clean the ear, then OMEGA 3's in adequate dosage ammends the blockage/caking issue. Also certain genetic groups produce different waxes. As I remember it is quite common in Asian populations to have dry wax, whereas in European it is more common to have the gooey, oily version. Food for thought! Theodora > > > > > > Our son, 22 mts. old., had ear tube surgery for both his ears yesterday. The ENT sent him Cipro ear drops to be put in his ear 3x a day for three days. Guest guest
Dana, wow thank you so much for that information, my son's ears have increasingly gotten full of black yucky wax, I mean full to the outside of the ear, visable. ENT nor any other doc could tell me why, and they are going to have to knock him out to clean them out (now will have to deal with him not detoxing the anestesia - any recommendtions on how to deal with that, prepare him for the anestesia?)... his labs show pancreatic insufficiency and he doesnt tolerate EFA's, so that is interesting that the Mito cocktail helps with this.... deborah > > Interesting!!! Because two of my boys get excessive earwax (one is dry and crumbly...?), but they have to go and get it removed every few months. Now that they are casein free, I wonder if it will resolve somewhat? > > > My son had excessive ear wax because his body did not properly absorb fats. Be sure to give B12. >>his labs show pancreatic insufficiency and he doesnt tolerate EFA's, so that is interesting that the Mito cocktail helps with this.... Yep, my son did not tolerate any fats, including supplements, until I corrected his mitochondrial dysfunction. Dana
