Hello. It is my opinion to skip this one. My kids who have had the shot ended up

with jaundice and they had to be placed under light therapy.  VV

Sorry for the Off Topic question but I thought this was the best place to

go. I'm asking this question for a friend of mine who's due in 3 weeks. She

asked me what I thought about the Vitamin K shot that they give to newborns in

the hospital as she is " on the fence " about it. She is not going to let them

give the HepB vaccine to her baby but doesn't know if she should have this

shot....anyone have useful information I can share to help her with this

decision? I do not have enough knowledge about it except to tell her not to have

any vaccines done but I think she is looking for more than just my opinion.

I sent her this link to read but I told her I would post to this group for more

info...

I have four kids two had jaundice and two didn't. The two with jaundice had vit.

K shots and the other two didn't have the shots. It's a guess but I thought it

was peculiar. VV

Unless she has Hep B, then what makes her think that her baby would be in danger

of getting Hep B (a blood borne illness that babies do not get)? (And if she has

Hep B, then it is a little late to vaccinate her baby against it right?)

Also, no need for the vitamin K. Four of my five kids did not get it and were

fine without it. (3 homebirths and a very controlled & planned hospital birth

with a very lenient OB)

Would agree with all of the above, except that if mom has Hepatitis B, it is not

too late to immunize the baby, with addition of Hepatitis B immune globulin.

Most vertical transmission occurs at delivery. Jim
