Guest guest
Hi group I would appreciate some feedback on this one as I do not know what to think of this. Our OT wants my son to play pet shop hop during his sessions with her. She asserts it is great for kids to organize their brains, etc. I googled it and it can be downloaded for under 10.00. My OT charges 120.00 an hour. Is this a game that really makes a difference? (The only computer program I have ever requested was fast forward and they do not have this one). Thanks, Alice
Guest guest
I have worked with some excellent OTs and some lousy ones in the school system. You don't need expensive games like Fast Forword to get some great therapy, but I really don't see why you would pay an OT to teach your son to play a computer game when you could probably do that yourself. The best OT I worked with had a lot of finger strenghthening activities, fine/gross motor activities, and crossing the midline activities. At first I thought it was a waste of her time to have my student pull ball bearings out of theraputty prior to each session, but after awhile I realized it was decreasing his hand tactile sensitivity and warming up his finger muscles before they worked on " Handwriting Without Tears " If your OT does this game for five minutes as a warm up before she starts a session, maybe it has value. Maybe you should watch so you can get a sense of whether she is treading water or really trying to help your child focus. Guest guest
My daughter used to see an OT and ST (same building) and all they did was sit her at a computer with earobics repeatedly, then make her do 20 rounds in the room on a scooter board. (Woo Hoo..that is why they USED TO be the therapists). > > > > Hi group > > I would appreciate some feedback on this one as I do not know what to think of this. > > > > Our OT wants my son to play pet shop hop during his sessions with her. Guest guest
If you are paying the $120, then stop now and change OT's just based on that (download the game yourself). Second, what are you seeing the OT for? What is the age of your child? I can (maybe) give you some good things to look for in an OT based on your child's needs and maybe some ideas you can do for $120 a visit. > > Hi group > I would appreciate some feedback on this one as I do not know what to think of this. > > Our OT wants my son to play pet shop hop during his sessions with her.
