Guest guest
Hi all, We have been using biotin and something called CDX (I believe CDX is like candidase) for yeast with good results but since we started chelation these are not cutting it anymore. My son did not tolerate GSE in the past. I just bought no-phenol hoping that would help so I gave him just 2 drops of GSE with a no-phenol yesterday and the day before. Each day after he has had a loose BM so I dont think the no-phenol is helping. We give him 5000 mcg of biotin 2x a day. Any suggestions? Happy New Year to all!!! May 2011 bring many happy healthy days you all and your families!!!! Liz
Guest guest
Biotin isn't an antifungal it just makes yeast easier to kill. Stops them from mutating. It is recommended to give 5-10mgs (5000- 10,000 mCg) per meal (3 times per day). There are lots of things you can give to kill yeast. If your child is phenol intolerant, I would try pau d'arco or caprylic acid. Guest guest
Some things we have used around here to help combat yeast: Celtic sea salt. Probiotics (in the form of organic yogurt, but I know many people on this list are dairy-free) coconut oil oil of oregano quinine (in the form of diet tonic water -- I don't think it matters if it is diet or non-diet, the quinine is the important part) Watermelon Good luck. Guest guest
They sell a brand of coconut milk yogurt with live cultures (probiotics) at Whole Foods Market. I think it is called " So Delicious. " The same company also make coconut milk Kefir, which contains live cultures. We use this in place of buttermilk in recipes. It comes in plain, vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate. Haven

Guest guest
, Could you please explain about the tonic water and watermelon. The watermelon is a great flusher, I know and rehydrator but had not heard of it in relationship to yeast...could you post more info or explain. I had heard of the quinine being use for charley horses..but never yeast..so this is intriguing. We are in an never ending fight with yeast here...and are leaning toward something to help the liver. So if the quinine would help or the watermelon..I am interested. Guest guest
Quinine kills yeast and when I lived in Panama using watermelon rinds, blending them with water and drinking that 2-3 time a day was a cheap way to get rid of a yeast infection. Guest guest
Quinine is an extract from the bark of a tree. It has long been used to kill malaria (a parasite). It is still available without a prescription at any liquor store or grocery store in the form of " tonic water " . I ran the calculations once and you need to drink about 3 liters (or 100 ounces) a day of tonic water to roughly equal a prescription dose of quinine. I haven't found it useful to take anywhere near that much -- and doing so can cause " cinchoism " (quinine side effects, including headache, nausea, and blurred vision). IIRC, cinchoism comes from the name of the tree that they extract quinine from. Quinine is a strong alkaloid. I use it in part because we work hard on trying to make our bodies more alkaline. The genetic disorder that I and my oldest have tends to make people extremely acid. From what I have read, virii don't thrive if your blood is kept on the slightly alkaline side of the narrow range it exists in. Just from experimentation, we found quinine also helps with yeast. One of the things we sometimes do is wipe down our belly with it rather than just drink it. I really don't know how or why it kills yeast, just that it works for me and my sons. We haven't very often used watermelon for treating yeast, but have done so occasionally. On one occasion, we had my youngest son just kind of scrape a piece of watermelon with his teeth. He does not like watermelon and wasn't going to eat a bowl of it. It still had a pretty big effect. That was the event that convinced me that watermelon can be helpful with yeast. I was consuming it almost every single day for other reasons, not specifically for yeast, but I was generally having fewer problems with yeast during that period than previously. I know watermelon is good for PH balance and for mineral balance. As a guess, that may be part of why it helps with yeast. Another thing I did specifically for yeast that wasn't in my earlier list: I ate a big bowl of lettuce at least 4 or 5 days a week. I did a yeast cleanse after getting off a bunch of drugs. At that time, lettuce, organic yogurt, plain grilled meats, and fresh fruits and veggies were a daily part of my diet for about 3 or 4 months. I did something similar at a later date where I ate lots of lettuce for several months, in part to combat yeast. Good luck with this and I hope that helps.
