help deciding about mercury chelation

For the past couple of years I have been working with my son, who appears to be

on the ASD continuum, given his history of allergies, GI problems, immune

problems, sensory integration issues, etc. Our first approach was to use the

SCD for over a year and saw significant improvement in overall health (allergies

went away, stopped having ear inflammation, less viral infections, skin

improved, bowel function improved, etc.) Once we took all milk out of the diet

(even SCD approved items) we saw a general improvement in mood also.

Then a little over a year ago after a viral infection he developed significant

gross motor tics. At that point we started working with a DAN doctor. Since

last year, with the addition of a ton of supplements (ASD vitamins, Enhansa, B12

injections and spray, Glutathione, are just a few)and NAET treatments, his tics

are quite minimal at this time.

We did several months of NAET treatments which seem beneficial, but got to the

point where the doctor felt that he did not need additional treatments.

Overall, his health is still pretty good but we have not been strictly SCD since

last Fall, introducing rice and potatoes as seems tolerated and some other

items. It is clear that he still does not tolerate some of these changes well

and we continue to evaluate any new additions. Personally, I think he does the

best staying strictly on the SCD, but emotionally it is taking a toll to

constantly stand out as different.

One area we had not addressed was a possible Mercury toxicity. We did a hair

analysis which per Andy Cutler's counting test, did not indicate a mercury

toxicity and most recently we completed the urine porphyrin test that was quite

unclear as to toxicity. It indicated that several indicators were elevated but

even the doctor had trouble understanding the results. Now I understand that

per reading and my physician that the reliability of these tests are in

question.

So, my DAN doctor is recommending that we do a provoked urine challenge test to

get an accurate measure of the Mercury using DMPS. If I am correct from

reading, there is a risk doing this as it could pull the mercury out and then

redeposit it in the brain. I asked my doctor about this but he said that has

never been proven, and that in all the people he has used this test (as well as

a chelation protocol called Merc-out - uses DMPS) he has seen improvement and

never had anyone have a problem with this process.

I am unsure what to do? I don't want to put my son through chelation if he

really doesn't need it and I also don't want to make things worse. While my son

has issues, he really is doing well in many way and I don't want to create a

problem for him. Still, my goal is to help him have his health, and my thought

is that if there is a mercury problem, he is going to struggle with these

dietary issues, allergies, immune deficiencies, etc. forever.

What thoughts do you have out there and could you direct me to some articles

that would be helpful. Also, has anyone used OSR? I have a friend doing ALA

and DMSA (I think), but I wonder what the response has been to OSR.

Thanks,

DO NOT do a provoked urine test. These use high doses of chelator given

infrequently and can cause redistribution that can make your child sicker. Your

doctors says it's never been proven but that's not the actual experience of

people who have taken this test or done it on their children.

When it comes to Hg toxicity, just because a hair didn't meet rules does not

rule out mercury poisoning. Did you have the test looked at by this group to

check for other markers of mercury? Same with the porphyrin test. Those have

some failure issues yes, but primarily they are decent forms of testing. Also

you have to look at history.

Did he have vaccines? Any exposure to metal dental fillings through you or

himself?, Rhogam or flu vaccines while pregnant?

I just haven't found hardly any kids with all this issues who were not mercury

toxic.

And honestly if you want to know if he has mercury....do a low dose Andy Cutler

chelation round using alpha lipoic acid on him. All of his symptoms say mercury.

A trial with low dose chelation is safe and will tell you if it will help him.

If he has no mercury/metals, the round will not do anything to him at all

anyway. Far safer than letting the doctor play roulette with that test.

Sometimes the dmps challenge test does not show mercury anyway, even when it's

there, because brain mercury is not removed with dmps.

My older son, NT son developed some really scary tics after GSE and later

working with an herbalist. First it was a neck bob tic and then wrist

rubbing....made us crazy and then he really started to get frustrated by it.

These tics got worse with lyme treatment and then vanished....with my little one

who is severely developmentally delayed he has had some of the most wicked

mercury dumps treating infections. goldenseal and myrhh dump shocked an

experienced DAN (supps were clean) then we had some other wacky gut issues that

were new....so i did another stool test and the barium and thallium coming out

of this little kid were like wow. He did do 2 barium studies....and I thought

he pooped most of it out with the blonde poops....guess not, but the sample that

we sent in was very light too....talk about layers and clogged pipes.

With the tics, you might want to try some broad spectrum antimicrobials.....ones

to think about are Bioray's artemesia and cloves, GSE, biociden, OLE.
