Guest guest
I went thru that too when I quit drinking. Luckily it didn't last too long! I know what you mean about the anti-depressants. I didn't want them either. Took me 4 months the first time I did treatment before I started them. I did notice a difference tho, especially when those mood swings kicked it. They even had to up the dosage. Maybe you won't even need them for the treatment. That would be just one less pill to take! LeighAnn
Guest guest
Xanax isn't an anti-depressant.... its a heavy duty tranquillizer and very, very addictive. Medications I'm not on treatment yet, but I've noticed since I quit drinking, I suffer from anxiety. I decided to see a psychiatrist about anti-depressants and of course I told him about my disease. He said I was just worried about nothing, but he wanted to see me again. Well to make a short story shorter, when I saw him again, he prescribed zanex. They help me now, but I don't know if they'll help me on treatment. I don't really want anti-depressants, but that's me. I think it's different strokes for different folks, just like the sides affect people differently...Take care... Jeanie
Guest guest
Carolyn - I have a herniation at L4/5 right now. The pain was pretty bad until I got a series of ESI shots to block the pain. I'm wondering if they will work on stenosis. You can check out different treatments on back.com, spineonline.com and spine-universe.com. I take Amitriptyline (elavil) 75 mg and 10mg of hydrocodone each night and it lets me sleep. I hope this helps. If you don't have herniated discs and are dealing with stenosis, you might want to look at some minimally invasive surgical procedures, such as the ones done by Dr. Jho (drjho.com) in Pittsburgh. I'm trying to get info from him as well to see if he'll treat my lumbar herniation. Good luck to you. joe > Is anyone out there taking a pain medication that works? > > I have severe spinal stenosis in the L4-L5 area which causes pain in > the calf of my right leg. I have severe spinal stenosis in the L4-L5 area which causes pain in the calf of my right leg. I am currently taking oramorph a generic for Mscontin. Also at night, I take nortriptyline. But I'd really like to find something that did not have so many side effects and get off this schedule 2 addicting drug, oramorph. Guest guest
Patty: I am so very sorry to hear about 's week. Bless her, and your hearts... Lodine is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug with action similar to Naproxen. I am guessing they are trying a different med to see if she has fewer side effects.Lodine can, however, have similar effects. I will pray it doesn't!! The other drug I am unfamiliar with. Can you clarify the spelling?? Most kids who are on non-steroidals are given something for stomach protection. Rob was on Naproxen for about a year, and took Zantac to protect his stomach. He has been on Voltaren since early this year, and in August he was begun on Prilosec and it has given him better relief. I will keep you and in my prayers. and Rob 14 Spondy On Thu, 18 Dec 2003 18:22:42 EST Emeraldsx3@... writes: > Hello All: > > We (the doctor and us) took our daughter, Caitlin, off of Naproxen > (last dose > was 8 am Tuesday) because it was upsetting her stomach and > constipating her > (she was literally screaming while trying to go to the bathroom > because it hurt > so bad, poor little thing). Guest guest
Patty, It sounds like you are talking about Protonix. This is a Proton Pump Inhibitor which reduces the acid in the stomach. This should help protect Caitlin's stomach. My daughter uses Protonix for gastroesophageal reflux and it helps with her stomach pain. Guest guest
--Patty, IM sorry to read about Caitlins problems with Naproxen, had the same issues... if he didnt take his meds for 2-3 days his fevers and joint pains would return. Nick did well on the nap in the beginning but it really started to do a number on his tummy, he couldnt take his morning dose until he got to school otherwise he would throw up on the bus. We also couldnt plan on driving anywhere until the nap had been in his system for awhile otherwise up it would come. Once Nick started to complain more and more of tummy upsets, i knew it was time to come off the nap. He had been on nap since June. At our last doctors appt we switched him to vioxx and hes doing soo much better. Its a tiny pill that hes able to swallow ( Nick is only 6 and tiny) and its only once a day. We did have the choice to switch to another med similar to nap and add prilosec, but i didnt want him taking more meds. I hope you find what works best for Caitlin and she starts to feel better soon.. Guest guest
Hi Helen: Thank you for your reply. Sounds like had a time of it with Naproxen too. I will have to keep Vioxx in my mind. I am not sure how long she can handle the Naproxen or how long she will even need it. Still waiting on the 'official' dx. I, like you, don't want her taking a lot of meds. I am hoping I can give her Milk of Magnesia to get her bowels moving and avoid the Protonix, but will give it to her if needed. We just have to figure out how to get her to swallow it. much better. Its a tiny pill that he's able to swallow ( Nick is on Thank you for your well wishes. I am hoping to find hopeful lab reports when we go to the rheumy on Tuesday. Take care. Guest guest
Hi , I am new to this group too, I had few episodes of seisures (grand mall) since I was 23 years old. My doctors told me that even if you have only one seizure in your life you are an epileptic. My journey was through phenobarbital (horrible) dilantin (a little better) up to trileptal (practically no side effects). EEG doesnt necessarily tell anything, I had two and they didnt show anything, I have MRI and catScan - nothing, and I was told that since these are just snapshots of brain function, they not necessarily show anything. So on into life with meds and off my sorry trip of " being sick " . Life goes on and beauty of it is that if seizures can be controled than it is OK, just think that 100 years ago we would be burned as witches and devils for having seizures!!! So chin up. Guest guest
Hi, I'm Jeanie Uhlik, I was banded on 9/14/07...no problem at that time with my meds...just cut them up smaller, then swallowed...even after my first fill on Nov. 8, still no problem, same thing. However... I was filled again this past Thursday, April 3, I was given 1.75 cc the first time (a 4 cc band), Dr. Campos added an additonal .9 cc because my stoma had become the size of my pinkie finger and I could just about eat everything and had been floating between 215 and 208 for 8 weeks. The fill was definenty required if I were to loose more weight I had no problem swallowing my meds on Thursday night (I have to take 2 vicodin, 2 soma and 1 xanax three times a day due to pain in my back). I did the usual thing like I did before the recent fill. I woke at 3:00 am with a roaring backache, so I got up and took my meds all cut up like usual....bad move. Somehow my stoma/esophagus had swelled and I couldn't retain the meds, I kept " sliming " and was in constant pain for about an hour, luckily about 80 percent of my pain meds were ingested, however they irritated the stoma, it swelled almost completely shut. On our was back to San Diego we stopped for drinks, I bought an Arizona Ice tea and some Apple Juice. Just 2 swallows of Ice tea and I was upchucking the whole thing --luckily I carry an emergency bag in my purse with napkins in it...someone needs to let Ernesto know that he really should carry paper towels for such occurances, ( I was probably not the first that this has happened to). After I had slimed/pb'd all of the Ice tea (only about 2 small swallows) I fell asleep on my pillow until we arrived in San Diego. I felt okay until we went to Mcs to sit and relax (waited for 6.5 hours for our outbound flight home). It was time to take meds again, I did the same as I had the previous 2 times, but this time, it hurt so bad, I broke out in cold sweats, the pain would not go away. I have never until now called Dr. A's office for help. at Dr. A's office. there told me not to even try and swallow a thing, nothing by mouth for 9 hours, then only small sips of cammomile tea, my stoma was too swolen. She told me to call back the next day if I needed more advise (Saturday). I asked her if they would be there on a Saturday, she said yes, they are there 7 days a week, What a Support Team!!! We found a bench at Mcs out of the traffic flow and I finished sliming out of public view (very embarassing). I had asked a security person if there was a nurses station I could find, she said no, but they would call an ambulance for me if I needed it. (don't you all think airports should have emergency nurses stations? They have them in amusement parks... So I stretched out on the padded bench and actually fell asleep for 2 hours. I felt much better then. My hubby found my bathrobe and actually put socks on my feet for me (what an angel). We got into Fresno at 7:30 pm and drove straight home 1 hour and 10 minutes. It was time to take meds again ((. Sooo... I ground them into a powder and mixed them with honey and hot cammomile tea. Wasn't too bad. By the way, it is now the Saturday at 6:20 pm. I have slept almost the whole day and only drank 1 cup of peppermint tea and a half cup of chicken broth taken off of chicken noodle soup. I have not felt hungry at all, but I knew I had to eat something to keep up my strength. I still cannot take very big swallows without hurting, I guess it will take a while for me to get used to the new adjustment. Moral of the story: not every fill is the same, don't assume so. I take my pills by way of powder mixed with a tsp of hot water then add a tsp of honey, that is the only way I can get them down. Hope this warning helps anyone out there who has to take pills on a regular basis. Most sincerely, Jeanie Uhlik 246/206/145.

Then, because I do not find Vancouver and exciting place to be and everyone I know there are busy this Friday - I'd just be turning around and repeating that trip back home again, except that it's a Friday and likely the ferries would be backed up, due to all those people that are willing to spend a gross amount of $$$ just to come a visit the island. On top of that, they should have been given me these meds at the end of July anyway; but, the confidential Pharmaceutical Co has had a horrendous hold up in distribution. In fact, it was only today that the clinician was able to assured these meds would be there by Friday. So, we started hunting an alternative to that longggg drive. Guest guest
The only reason for all this travelling is because it's a Clinical Trial. When I was on treatment before, my pharmacy ordered it in and I just picked it up. Except, back then I had to shell out close to $875 every two weeks for them. Our Pharmacare approved me for the meds, just wouldn't cover them because I hadn't filed an Income Tax for a few years.Gloria Hi Gloria. Guest guest
Hi Don, Thanks for the thoughts. In most states that would likely be the case but in California methadone and other such drugs are schedule II or something like that and we have to go to the doctor's office and pick it up. He used to mail it to the pharmacy but since they were taken over by a big corporation that is no longer the case. They'd rather us spend several dollars on gas than them spend.44 on a stamp.‹(•¿•)› Ress Felton, CA"Drink water from your own cistern, flowing water from your own well." I mean, I doubt you or Gloria are rich and can afford the gas. Also your sick, and its a bummer to have to travel. Is it possible either of you can have them delivered via the post office? I mean, I know Methadone is a controlled substance, but arent all Pscripts? I sometimes get Pmeds by mail. love don in ks
Guest guest
Hi Gloria I havent filed income taxes for near 30 years. Thats just not right that you should EVER be denied your meds for some unrelated reason like taxes. And 875.00 also blows my mind...every two weeks. Dammmmmmmmm. How did you manage that one? God, I hope I dont have to deal with heavy duty problems like you all. I can just barely face having HCV in the first place. love don in ks From: Gloria <gadamscan (DOT) ca>Subject: [ ] Medications Date: Wednesday, September 23, 2009, 9:25 PM Hi Everyone:Gotta tell you the saga of me trying to get my meds for the next month for this Clinical Trial. So, this past weekend, I decided that I just did not want to travel from my little city on Vancouver Island, BC, down to the ferry terminal (about a 1-1/4 hr drive), then wait for the ferry (about 1 hr hopefully), to cross over and dock (about 2 hrs) then make my way across to the Vancouver General Hospital (another good 1 hr, providing none of the streets are dug up because of the Olympics) just to try to find a fast parking spot (lots of laughs) to go up to the 5th floor and be handed my meds for the month. For an hour or two, we thought he could catch the shipment and have it sent directly to my Pharmacy here in town. Guest guest
Our Pharmacare System relies on last years combined income to figure out what level you end up at and thus how much you fork over before they covered. So, say in your case, the meds would probably cost you absolutely nothing because of your income. However, my hubby was still making some pretty good money back then. However, it did end up bankrupting us as well !!!! Then our wonderful Revenue Canada took me to court about 1/2 way through my treatment and because no one, not my lawyer, nor the Prosecutor or the Judge every understand for one second that the meds were going to cost us over $20,000 in the end, so they gave me a court fine of another $9000.00.I had to get in touch with the Prosecution Office last spring to let them know that their was absolutely no way that I could pay more than I had already!!! Our Income has reduced so drastically that I'm not even going to be able to continue to pay for my other meds her soon. So, I plan to get a hold of them tomorrow and ask why we haven't qualified for the reduction yet and why they are not covering at least one of my scripts. My GP is no help there, says she'll put in a request and then never mentions it again. So I'm going to get the straight goods.Gloria Hi Gloria I havent filed income taxes for near 30 years.
