We're on about round 40 of DMSA and are doing our 2nd attempt at adding ALA this weekend. B/c of my son's severe phenol issues, we're trying only 1mg capsules this time. All weekend, every once in a while my son's eyes will get really wide and sort of bug out for a few seconds then go back to normal Nothing else has changed this weekend so I assume this is the ALA. Does anyone know why and if this is bad? Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure he had this same side effect a couple months ago when we tried the 5mg capsules of ALA. Other than that his behaviors are fine and no red cheeks or any other phenol-related symptoms like last time. The eye bugging thing is weirding me out though. I appreciate any advice! Thanks! Guest guest
Thanks, . It's amazing to me that even 1mg of ALA could cause any side effects for him. It's frightening how sensitive he is.  He's had thyroid levels checked in the past and was initially diagnosed hypo, since taking many supplements, including selenium, they have normalized. I wonder if the ALA is going to move that much more metals and cause damage. Will have to get it checked again.  Do you think increasing selenium and iodine would help? Any other supps that may help in the meantime? Thanks! Guest guest
Well, I think iodine is often helpful for some thyroid issues, however your body becomes less effective in extracting iodine from your blood cells when your urine ph is less than 6.3 or greater than 6.6. (It's the trickier of minerals to stay on top of...yet is so essential for health.) Selenium has a slightly broader range of ph's that enable it to be extracted more efficiently. The urine ph range best for selenium bioavailability is 6.2 to 6.8. But with such a strict range on both minerals you can see how easily that a body could be lacking in those minerals. In my opinion, it would be prudent to keep a check on your child's urine ph because you want your child s body to make use of minerals that are in the bloodstream. You don't want to keep adding more if their body simply isn't going to utilize it. Do you have a DAN physician? -- [ ] ALA and Eyes Bugging Hi everyone, just a quick question about ALA and eyes bugging.
