Dear Ruth- I have been taking this medication also known as plaquenil. It is a medication classified as an anti-malarial. It was given to people who had malaria to help control the high fevers and normalize the body temperature. Apparently you must have a high body temperature due to inflammation from the disease. I have been on this medication since 1994 with no ill side effects. Some people experience a rash, but I personally have never dealt with it. If the specialist recommends it, then its a good idea to start on it right away. You can read up on it by going to www.arthritisfoundation.org and clicking on the treatments tab. Yours, Deborah
