Guest guest
I'm actually going through this with my son right now. I have long suspected absence seizures for years but they seem to be progressing now & it's very scary. I was on the look out for them once my son started puberty & all seemed good until..... My son is currently 13 1/2 years old & within the last 3 weeks, he has had 2 episodes with last night's episode of him passing out for a few seconds. In a message dated 9/1/2010 8:42:53 P.M. Guest guest
Has anyone had experience with their son or daughter with autism developing seizures for the first time during puberty? How common are seizures among teenagers with autism? Thank you, Z

Guest guest
I have seen seizures develope in 3 autistic kids of parents I know as they reached puberty. My son was put on depakene in 2002 for high paroxysmal activity and then kept on it for behavior control and is now 16 and never had a seizure, I think we dodged a bullet. But I also wonder if the kids who've been chelated and other biomed approaches are having seizures. The 3 kids I know had no biomed at all, while another child who has also been doing biomed has no seizures Most began having seizures around age 13-
Guest guest
So, then it seems that biomed kids could dodge seizures......that's good to know! I wonder if other then Taurine, are there additional supplements that help avoid seizures? Guest guest
Anti-inflammatory DIET (no starches, no corn syrup, good fats, fish oils, veggies, fruits) can contribute too. Guest guest
Why have you not sought out medical evaluation. Or have you? Pam > > I'm actually going through this with my son right now. Guest guest
The statistics are showing that 1 in 4 ASD kids develop seizures while in puberty. The other high risk time is between the ages of 0-3 years. I am more than confident that I am lowering my son's risk of developing seizures in puberty through chelation, but I'm still nervous. He is only 9 right now. There are also those subclinical seizures spoken about during puberty: increased aggression, tantrums, stalled learning in school, loss of cognitive gains that they say should be investigated as possible seizure activity. How do we separate being a teenager from seizures in our kids? I guess, again, it is a matter of degree? Guest guest
This just started 3 weeks ago. I was told years ago, quite a few times by different Doctors that he didn't look like he was having seizures & that if they would come on, it would be the onset of puberty. My son is 13 1/2 now, so now things are changing in his body & apparently it looks like seizures are starting. He was fine for years, even the eye flickering was decreased a lot! My son is high functioning & has continued to progress, believe me, I haven't noticed anything until he was with his Dad 3 weeeks ago & all of this started. Puberty is kicked in now & things are going crazy in his body right now. In a message dated 9/2/2010 12:09:42 P.M.
