Hello Parents,

Ever heard of something so obnoxious ... the BCBA is writing a report stating

that the child

cannot be in LRE because of his restricted diet GF/CF.

His reasoning is child has behaviors because he is on a restricted diet.

When the child is denied regular food that hispeers are eating in school campus,

his behaviors include hitting the aide and therefore the child needs a

CHANGE OF PLACEMENT!!!! His strong statement in the report is " ABOLISH THE

SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT AS POSITIVE. "

Los Gatos school District sp. ed dept. is so in-human!!!!!!!!

How would you deal with such a two faced BCBA???

Being denied the food is not the reason the child cannot control the aggression.

It is either medical or behavioral, not the diet that causes the child to act

out.

It does suck to watch your friends eat cupcakes, and have your classroom

assistant tell you you can't have one, but most children would either be sad or

ignore it. I've seen kids on the diet that never seemed interested in their

peers food, and one child that literally took the cupcake out of the birthday

boy's hand and shoved it down before he knew what happened. He was still

sitting there with an empty grasp, and that cupcake was gone!

Some schools will try to work through these behaviors in a regular ed setting,

others won't. It usually depends on how disruptive the behavior is to other

students and of course safety concerns. The aggression usually continues in a

special ed setting, but the administrators don't have to answer as many parental

concerns because the " special " students don't go home and talk about it.

You bring in an expert. Would they do the same thing for a child with, say, a

serious peanut allergy?

But, to be fair, the aide cannot be hit repeatedly. What is the parent (is this

you?) doing at home to work on the frustration he feels when he cannot get what

he wants? Can this method also be brought in to the school? If this child only

hits and expresses agression under these food situations then you can kind of

see where they are coming from... not saying it is correct, but it is the way

most react who really don't understand the real picture.

This decision gets fought, for sure.
