Guest guest
~ Don't wash your eggs until just before you use them! Eggs have a natural anti bacterial coating on them when they are laid. If you wash them you wash off the coating. This makes them spoil faster. To avoid getting dirty eggs check your nest boxes regularly for bm and broken eggs. Clean them out and add lots of nesting material. We use dried grass from the yard. If you do get a dirty one and need to wash it, use it right away. Eggs will keep at room temp for a long time. In theory 3 weeks. I've kept mine at room temp for up to a week with no problem. Also, you will need to age your eggs for at least 3 weeks in fridge to hard boil them or the shells stick and you lose most of your whites. Sorry I went on so, I love my chickens! Our adhd dd is the main reason we raise our own egg and meat chickens and meat rabbits. If you have any other questions I'd be happy to answer and/or recommend some resources.
