Hi

We have found Fast Forward very helpful. The first 3

programmes – Language, Language to Reading and Reading, we used a US

consultant and it was very expensive. We are doing FF Reading at the

moment (there are 5 programmes up to very advanced levels) and using

Kidson. It is much better value and at least the same level of support!

We saw a big boost in receptive and expressive language after

using Language programme – into low normal range. You do need

reasonable computer skills – but just moving the mouse to the right point

and clicking at the appropriate times. There is a demo programme you

could test them on.

I’m sure will contact you, but feel free to contact

me if you want a parent view. We have done Johannson sound therapy as

well with – I’m not sure it is wise to do FF and Sound therapy

together, maybe a bit too much.

Subject: Fast ForWord

I was wondering if anyone has done Fast ForWord in the UK? If so can you

please tell me how proficient on the computer you need to be, how expensive it

was and whether there is a time frame for finishing it? I am seeing

someone next week about it but would like to know a bit in advance. I was

told that results needed to be sent back to the States to check progress?

Would it be possible to do the programmes without having progress

checked? My boys are very novice on the computer but I am looking for a

computer programme to help with auditory processing. We are about to

start the Listening Program as well. Would that be too much at once?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Dear ,

We have a programme called Language Basics for children who are not proficient

on a computer. This programme helps to develop mouse skills and is aimed at

pre-school children, but we use it wherever necessary. To be able to start on

the main programmes a child needs to be able to recognise primary colours,

understand same & different as well as large and small and be able to associate

a tone with a symbol. If there is a question about any of these areas then

beginning with Fast ForWord Basics would be recommended.

The results are e-mailed back to America & your provider accesses these results

on a daily basis. In addition you receive reports on either a daily, weekly or

monthly basis whichever you prefer. The results do need to be e-mailed each day

- this is set up to happen automatically so you don't usually have to worry

about it happening as long as you have an internet connection. The results show

your provider how your child is progressing and whether any intervention is

needed. The sooner we can see that intervention is needed the better, this is

where your provider's training will be important as it is the interpretation of

the results which is critical.

We usually recommend that The Listening Programme(TLP)is done first to prepare

your child for Fast ForWord. Some parents do run the two together, but, it is

quite alot going on for your child and my personal preference is for them to be

done separately. I have some clients who have started with Fast ForWord and I

have seen that they need to do TLP and they have taken a break to do TLP before

continuing with Fast ForWord. I will be training to be a TLP provider in March.

Fees for Fast ForWord vary depending on each provider and also on which system

they are using. My fees are: £125 set up & £195 per month tuition. A course

usually lasts about 6 months, though alot of people take breaks between modules,

during that time we would hope to complete at least 4 modules. I don't have a

fixed timetable for completion, once you have paid the set up fee, you don't pay

it again.

Hope this answers your questions. Please e-mail me off list if you would like

any further help.

Has anyone used this program ? I have read lots of good reviews about it. It is

very expensive so just wanted some reviews or info from people who have used it

before I invest. My daughter is 4+ and still non verbal. I am trying all

possible ways to enable her communication skills.

Thanks,

Richa.

We used it and saw many gains in verbal abilities. My son really liked

playing it too. He'll do the practice games for fun.

I guess the effect varies depending on children. My son did not have any benefit

from Fast Forward except that he liked playing with it. He is moderately

autistic.

My son started at age six. We also did detox for 1.5 years plus a slew of other

interventions. I think it's necessary to do auditory training (if a child needs

it) before FFW. If the ears are not hearing how they should then how can you do

FFW? VV
