Mercury amalgam ~ dental tattoo

Hi,

I had an amalgam removed a couple of weeks ago by an IAOMT mercury-free dentist.

When I got home I noticed there is still a gray line on my molar where the new

filling meets the tooth. Is this a dental tattoo? Is it safe to chelate w/that

or should I go back and have the dentist scrape/remove that, as well?

Any advice is greatly appreciated :)

Blessings,

~Robin

Hi Robin,

Having an amalgam for a long time can sometimes discolor the gum. I am not sure

if this is what you are seeing?

I just wanted to remind you, though, that it is not safe to chelate until at

least

three months after amalgam removal.

I noticed the same thing after my last amalgam was removed (July 2008). In fact,

I asked the dentist to provide me a mirror so I could take a look and made sure

the amalgam was all gone. That's when I saw the cavity that was all black. My

dentist told me that it's the stain caused by the metal filling sitting there

for years. He didn't need to grind any further to remove the stain.

I have the same thing. I was told that it was a stain, which is quite common

after removal of amalgams. In my case, I actually see a spot on my tooth so I

had a local dentist look at it and he said that there was no amalgam left, that

it was a stain.

Did you discuss this with the dentist? What was his opinion?

If you're unsure about the nature of the stain, you can take an x-ray. Amalgam

would come out as bright white and composite apparently is lighter.

It's safe to chelate with a stain.

Actually that is true for ALA but it is perfectly safe, per the Cutler

protocol, to chelate with DMSA 4 days after removal.

so does everyone agree that it's okay to chelate if you have stains on your

teeth from the amalgam?
