Date: Saturday, February 13, 2010, 6:40 AM  Hi, My son is 10 and we've done about 15 rounds of DMSA on AC Protocol. While he's improving slowly in all areas, we find that he's stuck on his reading and math skills. Though he's very good phonetically, he isn't able to read words correctly. He mostly looks at the first one or 2 letters of a word and guesses...for eg. he'll read the word 'pan' as 'pat' or 'par' but rarely correctly. If asked to spell the same word, he usually gets it right (just the small words..). Similarly, with math... Am not sure if this is a learning problem or an attention issue. He does stress very easily especially when asked to perform on command, but I'm wondering if it's just that, having been stuck on this for years now.. Looking forward to your thoughts on this, Thanks in advance, Anu
Guest guest
TOTALLY understand the reading thing you describe. I need to ask my son to slow down and then he tends to do better. He does the exact same thing you talk about: reading the first 2 letters and then just creating a word. It is always the longer words and sometimes it just cracks me up. He counts well, though. Spelling is good without even writing it down. I am kind of stuck on what this is stemming from. I know focus and anxiety are an issue here, and I tend to think it is a combination of that. What I don't know is how he reads when he is reading in his head. It is getting better with chelation. Keep it up. Sorry I can't offer more help! Maybe working on some behavioral mods (change the setting where he reads, read at the same time every day to hopefully drop some of the anxiety, slow him down, etc). Guest guest
Well, if you ask him to count a bunch of things he just blurts out a random number (unless it is a very small no like 3 or 4). If made to count slowly, he gets stressed and irritable and just wants to get away...we've tried flash cards, physical objects, etc with little success... > > From: amum102999 <anushridhar@...> > Subject: [ ] Is this a learning or focus issue ?
