Guest guest
I've been pretty close to no supplements due to financial reasons before. If I could only give him one supplement I would pick Peptidase or another broad spectrum enzyme from Houston. My son had success with Peptidase even when he only had it at breakfast or dinner, not with every meal. I guess I would also be sure to not have him eat foods with a lot of chemicals/sugar. When my son was younger and went off supplements for a time, sometimes we saw improvements. I think that it takes a lot of energy and worry to do biomedical, and our kids take that in. At times when I could do no more, or stopped what I was doing because I thought it was making the situation worse, my son would lighten up a little. Overall, I feel he both benefits healthwise and cognitively from biomedical intervention, but we can only do what we can do. There is no shame in taking a break, resting, and staying alive to fight another day. Jen > > What's gonna happen to my kid if I hAve to stop most of his supplements due to lack of funds? Guest guest
Are you under the supervision of a practitioner? We routinely prioritize supplements (on request) so that parents can use the most important ones for their child(ren). Whereas I agree with the response to cut back on other expenses, this may or may not be possible in an individual family. Then, once the finances improve you can start adding the others in. Probably the most important thing is to assure the healthiest diet possible. Other treatments, such as epsom salt baths or topical iodine, for example, are relatively inexpensive and won't put a crimp in your finances. Guest guest
Apply for grants to cover supplements. Call TACA. The Angel Autism group in Wisconsin has grans (not sure where you are but look to see if there's a similar organization), although these will need to go to a specific provider. Ask around at school, other parents, State social workers, etc and see if they know about funding you can obtain. There are also some websites where you can buy cheaper supplements (may not be as good quality) like vitacost and others. Talk to your pharmacist about whether any multivitamins are covered by health insurance with a prescription. We've had some luck ordering Dr N's formula through Lee Silsby and it was covered by prescription. Good luck. Guest guest
CC, I would do a couple of things. 1. As one of the other posters said, prioritize your supplements from most important down so that you keep those that are the most effective for your child. Every kid is going to be different in what his or her most important supplements are. For example, if needed I would drop our CoQ10 or Carnitine to keep our Fish Oil. 2. Explore cheaper ways of buying your supplements. Are you buying " proprietary " supplements thru your doctor or a specific company? Many time you can just give the main active ingredient for a much lower cost...an example is " Liver Life " which many people use, but milk thistle is it's most important active ingredient and can be purchased much more cheaply. 3. If you are buying your supplements at health food stores etc., on-line is MUCH cheaper. My favorite on-line source is Iherb.com from whom I buy my Vit C, Coconut Oil, Magnesium, Vit E etc. Just some thoughts. > > What's gonna happen to my kid if I hAve to stop most of his supplements due to lack of funds? Guest guest
I thought of this, but most organizations will not reimburse/grant money for supplements. I think TACA will grant one or two DAN! doc appointments and probably the supps he/she recommends but that is it. I'm sorry I couldn't help more. > > > > > > What's gonna happen to my kid if I hAve to stop most of his supplements due to lack of funds? Guest guest
I'm talking about serious financial problems. I'm a single mom with no job currently and no help. I'm not simply talking about cutting back. Sent from my iPhone " " The past cannot be changed, The future is yet in your power. Guest guest
Most doctor/DAN-prescribed supps are unnecessarily expensive. Chelating with ALA under the Cutler protocol is 45 cents a week. Keep this. As well, keep the essential supplement list on p.134 of Cutler's Amalgam Illness, as well as yeast fighters, probiotics and noFenol if necessary. Chelation is the only way you will eventually eliminate the need for most supplements. > > What's gonna happen to my kid if I hAve to stop most of his supplements due to lack of funds?
