Guest guest
Personally, I suspect Tourette's and PANDAS (which my son was affected by) may be linked to the Prevnar vaccine, which contains strep pneumoniae antigens. In susceptible people I think it triggers some sort of autoimmune reaction whenever similar strep strains are present in the bloodstream. Perhaps you can ask if he received Prevnar. " Autoimmune etiology in pathogenesis of PANDAS: in patients with SC, Tourette's syndrome, and PANDAS, autoantibody cross-reacts with lysoganglioside GM1 (neuronal cell surface molecule), causing change in neuronal signaling; antigen identified that mimics molecular structure of lysoganglioside; with disruption of specific pathway of signaling by interacting with neuronal cell surface molecule, change in metabolism in cells of basal ganglia might produce tic and OCD-type behaviors " FYI, there are many parent reports of kids having PANDAS/tic flares when they ingest probiotics containing strep thermophilus or are exposed to strep-infected people. The body's immune system over-reacts when exposed to strep. A few weeks ago the child went in for his annual checkup and the dr gave him 6 shots at the same time. there was a poster in the office that said that vaccines do not cause autism. After the final shot, the child was sitting on the table and began to blink uncontrollably. Since that time, he has developed eye tics. He went to his neurologist and now has a diagnosis of tourettes. At my house, both asthma and tics were caused by yeast overgrowth.
